A čekićara is a grain mill, an ajkula čekićarka is a hammerhead shark and a meat hammer is a kitchen utensil, so we do not cover those here; tool buyers mostly look for the price and for what Okov stocks.

Total engineer's hammers cost €4.99 for 300 g, €5.99 for 500 g and €8.99 for 1000 g, Hoegert €4.99 for 300 g with a wooden handle, €7.99 for 300 g with a fibreglass handle and €9.49 for 500 g, and unbranded engineer's hammers €3.50 for 200 g and €4.29 for 300 g.
Total claw hammers cost €4.99 for 450 g, €7.49 for 600 g and €11.99 for 560 g, an unbranded 600 g claw hammer €8.99, and a magnetic 800 g claw hammer €28.90. A 450 g W.best rubber mallet costs €7.99. At KIPS we took 30 hammers and sledgehammers from the first page of results, with a median of €5.79. Engineer's hammers with a metal handle cost €3.49 for 100 g, €4.09 for 200 g, €4.99 for 300 g, €6.09 for 400 g, €6.99 for 500 g and €7.79 for 600 g, and €19.90 for 1500 g. With a wooden handle they cost from €2.59 for 100 g to €9.49 for 1000 g and €12.99 for 1500 g, with an 800 g fibreglass handle €8.90, and with a two-component handle €4.69.
A 300 g Maurer claw hammer costs €7.99, and a 450 g joiner's hammer €6.99 with a wooden handle and €7.99 with a fibreglass handle. Rubber mallets cost from €2.49 for 225 g to €5.49 for 680 g, and an MTX with a two-component handle of 225 g €5.59. A 1500 g club hammer costs €14.99, and for comparison a 600 g bricklayer's hammer with a metal handle €17.99.
Which hammer to choose
An engineer's hammer has a flat face on one side and a peen on the other and is used for nailing, straightening sheet metal and working with a chisel; for home use a hammer of 300 to 500 g is enough. A claw hammer has a claw for pulling nails and a face for bigger nails, and weighs from 450 to 800 g. A rubber mallet strikes without leaving marks and is used for tiles, laminate and assembling furniture, while a sledgehammer of 1 to 2 kg is for chisels and chasing walls, and one over 4 kg knocks down walls and drives stakes.
A wooden handle is cheaper and absorbs blows well, but loosens over time and should be checked before work. Fibreglass and two-component handles do not loosen and pass less vibration to the hand, while metal handles are the strongest but kick back the most. Always hold a hammer near the end of the handle, wear safety glasses when striking steel or stone, and never use a hammer with a damaged or loose head.

Eurostat records in its accidents at work statistics (ESAW) for 2024 a total of 2.78 million accidents in the EU with at least 4 days of absence and 3 367 fatal accidents. Construction accounts for 12.7 % of accidents with absence and 23.0 % of fatal accidents, more than any other activity.
According to the same data, wounds and superficial injuries make up 29.3 % of all injuries and bone fractures 11.6 %. Montenegro is not part of these EU statistics, but working with hand tools looks the same everywhere, so wear safety glasses and gloves even for small jobs at home.

How we measured and what we did not measure
We copied prices from Okov and KIPS on the day of the check; the medians are ours. We did not count electric and pneumatic hammers, meat hammers or children's toys, and at KIPS we took only the first page of results. Type and weight were taken from product names. We did not measure head hardness or handle strength, and Eurostat data do not separate injuries from hammers from those caused by other tools.
