On 30 September 2026 common and joinery nails cost from €1.69 to €2.99 per kilogram, with a median of €1.88 across 35 kinds from two shops. Hardened masonry nails cost €5.99 per kilogram at Okov, and from €0.07 to €0.17 each at KIPS. Nails in small 40 to 245 g packs work out at €3.20 to €54.75 per kilogram, with a median of €24.88, and nailer nails at €0.94 to €42.69 per 1000.

So people look for nails for a specific use: concrete, shingles, mouldings, pictures and nailers.

Nails at Okov
At Okov we took 48 kinds of nail from nine searches. Loose nails are sold by the kilogram, which we checked on the product page: Alevado from 2.8 x 60 to 4.2 x 100 mm cost €1.69 per kilogram, Žica Promet 2.2 x 50 mm €2.49, joinery nails from 1.4 x 20 to 2.5 x 50 mm from €2.19 to €2.99, and Titibi hardened nails from 3.7 x 50 to 4.0 x 80 mm €5.99 per kilogram.
SBV nails in small packs cost €1.99 for 60 to 80 g, €2.19 for 40 g, €3.49 for 245 g and €4.79 and €4.99 for 175 g galvanised ones, and Sipa hardened nails from €3.40 to €3.99 per 100. Total nails for a cordless nailer cost from €14.99 to €19.99 per 1000, DeWalt €42.90 for 1005 and €79.00 for 2200, and IBFM decorative nails from €0.90 to €1.49 each.
Nails at KIPS
At KIPS we took 49 kinds of nail from seven searches. Common nails cost €1.84 per kilogram in 5 and 10 kg packs and €2.04 to €2.14 in 1 kg packs, from 2.2 x 50 to 7.0 x 240 mm. Galvanised nails for roof tiles cost €2.93 and for shingles €5.30 per kilogram, while masonry nails from 3.5 x 35 to 4.5 x 90 mm cost from €0.07 to €0.17 each. Nails in 200 g bags cost from €0.64 to €0.71, about €3.20 to €3.55 per kilogram.
Brad nails for nailers cost from €4.69 to €10.90 for 5000 and 6000, collated nails €27.90 and €32.90 per 1000, and small pins for a pin nailer €20.90 for 10,000.
What a kilogram costs in a small pack
A loose nail costs from €1.69 to €2.99 per kilogram, while SBV nails at Okov in small 40 to 245 g packs work out at €14.24 to €54.75 per kilogram. KIPS 200 g bags are the exception and work out at about €3.20 to €3.55 per kilogram, so the median of all small packs is €24.88. For a bigger job, a roof, fence or formwork, it therefore pays to buy nails by the kilogram or in a 5 kg pack, and a small pack only makes sense for a few nails for a picture or a moulding.
Which nail to choose
A nail should be about two and a half to three times longer than the thickness of the board being nailed, so that it goes far enough into the base. Common nails are used for battens and formwork, joinery and brad nails for mouldings and small jobs, galvanised nails that do not rust for the roof and outdoor work, and only hardened steel nails for concrete, with glasses, because an ordinary nail breaks in concrete.

What EU deforestation rules mean for the timber you nail
Regulation (EU) 2023/1115 on deforestation-free products, in the consolidated version of 26 December 2025, prohibits in Article 3 placing on the EU market relevant products that are not deforestation-free, not produced in accordance with the legislation of the country of production or not covered by a due diligence statement. Annex I also covers wood, including sawn wood under heading 4407, builders' joinery under 4418 and prefabricated wooden buildings under 9406 10.
Under Article 38, those obligations apply from 30 December 2026, and for micro and small enterprises from 30 June 2027. Montenegro is not an EU member, but the timber nailed here often comes from the EU or goes to the EU market, so rules on timber origin can show up in the paperwork and price of lumber.

How we measured and what we did not
We copied prices from Okov and KIPS on the day of the check; we calculated the price per kilogram and per 1000 and the medians ourselves from the pack, and we checked on the product page that the Okov price for loose nails is per kilogram. We did not count nailers, nail hammers, clips and door stops with nails, and at Okov and KIPS we took only the first page of results. We did not measure nail hardness.
