Power generators in Montenegro: prices of petrol, inverter and diesel generators and how many kW a house needs (2026)
On 25 September 2026 a petrol generator at Okov cost from €199.89 for a model with 2.5 kW rated output to €1,890 for a 7.2 kW inverter, and diesel generators cost €1,099 to €4,990. Inverter generators of about 2 kW cost €259.88 on sale to €629 at Okov and KIPS, and €769 on Ananas. KIPS had 14 generators from €239.99 to €4,199, Ananas 12 from €233.75 to €4,405.50, and an automatic start module, which starts the generator when the power goes out, costs from €189.90 at Okov.

Agregat za kuću (generator for a house) came with iskustva (experiences), cena (price), koliko kw (how many kW) and forum, and inverter agregat (inverter generator) with 5kw, 2kw and 3kw. In English and Russian Google offered no suggestion at all for a generator in Montenegro.
Generators at Okov
On 25 September 2026 Okov had 21 petrol, 11 diesel and four standby generators in its generator category, plus three automatic start modules. We explain how we choose and label price sources in how we measure prices.

The Honda GP160 with 2.5 kVA costs €499, and the Fogo FH6001TR with a Honda engine and 5.6 to 6.2 kVA €1,590. The K&S KS7000E G also runs on gas (LPG) and costs €1,209, €110 more than the same petrol version at €1,099.
Generators at KIPS and on Ananas
KIPS in Podgorica had 14 generators from INGCO and Dehray, and Ananas 12 generators from three sellers, eight of them from Centrometal:

The same class does not cost the same in the three shops: a diesel with 5 kW rated output costs €1,099 at Okov, 5 to 6 kVA models cost €1,139 to €1,449 at KIPS, and Ananas asks €1,299 for a 4.5 kW diesel. Ananas also has three Bormann inverter generators from €769 to €999.
How many kW a house needs
A generator's description gives both maximum and rated output. You may load it continuously only up to the rated output; it delivers the maximum only briefly, for example when a fridge or pump motor starts.
Add up the appliances that need to run at the same time. The Ariston Velis water heater at Okov has a 1,500 W element and the Tesy panel convector from the same shop 2,500 W, so the convector alone needs more than an inverter with 1.8 kW rated output delivers. For a fridge, lighting, a router and phone charging an inverter of about 2 kW is usually enough; for a water heater or electric heating you need a generator of 5 kW or more. How a generator is connected to the house
A generator is not plugged into the home wiring through a socket but through a changeover switch that separates the house from the grid. Without one, power from the generator can flow into the grid and endanger the workers repairing the fault, and when the grid comes back, the generator itself. How often you will need the generator depends on the grid where you live. Fijaka lists CEDIS emergency numbers by municipality in its power outage guide and explains that since 6 August 2026 you are entitled to €30 in compensation if power is not restored within 24 hours after a fault.
Example: three levels for a house
This is our calculation with Okov and KIPS prices from 25 September 2026:
- Fridge, lighting and internet: an inverter of about 2 kW, from €259.88 on sale at Okov to €629 at KIPS.
- House with a water heater, no heating: a petrol generator of 5 to 7 kW: INGCO 5.5 kW at KIPS €539.99, ITC 7.0/7.5 kW at Okov €699, K&S 5 kW €1,099.
- Longer outages and automatic operation: a diesel of 5 to 6 kVA, from €1,099 to €1,449, plus an automatic start module from €189.90 and the electrician's labour.

Who does this on Glatko
On 25 September 2026 Glatko had eight verified electricians, six in Podgorica and two in Budva, and there were no requests in that category yet. A registered provider's invoice goes through the Tax Administration's electronic fiscalisation system.
What to ask before buying
- What the rated and the maximum output of the generator are.
- How much fuel it burns per hour and how loud it is.
- Whether it is single-phase or three-phase, because three-phase appliances need a 230/400 V generator.
- Whether it has electric start and can take an automatic start.
- Who installs the changeover switch and what the labour costs.
What we did not measure
Prices come from three shops on the day we read them and change with promotions. We did not measure fuel consumption or noise, and we found no published price for installing a changeover switch; electricians quote it on request. We did not look at ads for used generators.
