Tape measures in Montenegro: prices of 3, 5, 8 and 10 m tapes, folding rulers, long tapes and laser measures from Sola, Unior, Stanley and Bosch (2026)

On 29 September 2026 tape measures cost from €1.79 for a 3 m tape at KIPS to €29.90 for a 5 m Sola BIG T at Okov, with a median of €7.24 across 66 tapes from two shops. A 3 m tape has a median of €4.95, 5 m €8.49, 8 m €13.49 and 10 m €15.99. Folding rulers cost from €3.79 to €8.49, 20 to 50 m measuring tapes from €19.99 to €79.90, and laser measures from €24.90 to €299.00, with a median of €69.90.

On 29 September 2026 Google completed metar (tape measure, metre) with na telefonu (on the phone), kvadratni (square), online, duzni (linear), okov and metar drva cijena podgorica (price of a cubic metre of firewood in Podgorica), while metar pantljika (tape measure) had no other completions. Most of those queries are not after the tool but a measuring app, a square metre or a cubic metre of firewood, so for the tool we only take tape measures, folding rulers, measuring tapes and laser measures here. At Okov tapes are also listed as dvometar, trometar, petometar, osmometar and desetometar.

Measures at Okov

At Okov we took 74 measures from eight searches, with a median of €14.45, because they include expensive laser measures. A 3 m tape costs from €1.99 for Schuller to €18.90 for the Sola PRO-TM, the Unior 710R €3.49 and 710P €5.49, and the Sola Compact €4.99, Protect €5.49 and Popular €7.49. A 5 m tape costs from €4.99 for Schuller, Unior 710R and TM Kovine to €29.90 for the Sola BIG T, the Unior 710P €8.49, and the Sola Protect €8.99 with a 19 mm blade and €11.90 with a 25 mm blade.

An 8 m tape costs from €4.99 for Workers Best to €21.90 for the Sola Popular, and a 10 m tape from Unior and TM Kovine €17.99 each. A Sola wooden folding ruler costs from €4.49 to €7.99, a plastic one €8.49, a Schuller carpenter's ruler €3.79 and a Stanley €5.99. Measuring tapes cost from €19.99 for a 30 m steel Raxx to €79.90 for a 50 m Sola Tracker, and laser measures from €24.90 for Total to €299.00 for the Bosch GLM 50-27 CG, while the Stanley TLM50 costs €44.90 and the Bosch GLM 40 €119.00.

Measures at KIPS

At KIPS we took 34 measures, with a median of €9.99. A 3 m tape costs from €1.79 for Sparta and €1.99 for Ingco to €8.39 for a Gross with a 19 mm blade, a Maurer Plus €5.19, a Warrior €6.39, and a 3.5 m Makita €8.99. A 5 m tape costs from €2.59 to €11.99, an Ingco €3.59, a Strip €6.89, a Warrior €7.90, and Gross from €6.49 to €11.99.

An 8 m tape costs €9.99 for Warrior and from €10.90 to €14.99 for Gross, and a 10 m tape from €5.79 for Elastica to €18.99 for Gross, while the Maurer Plus costs €12.49. A 2 m wooden folding ruler costs €4.19. Laser measures cost from €29.90 to €49.90 for Ingco and from €93.90 to €212.90 for Makita.

Which measure to choose

For the home a 5 m tape with a 19 mm blade is enough, as it does not bend when you pull it out across a wall or window. A 3 m tape fits in a pocket and is good for furniture, 8 and 10 m for rooms and terraces, and a 20 to 50 m measuring tape for plots, fences and building sites. A magnetic hook holds the tape on steel, and a rubberised case survives a fall from a ladder.

A laser measure measures to the wall at the press of a button and calculates area and volume, so it pays off when measuring a whole flat, but it does not measure around corners or along curved surfaces. Carpenters and bricklayers use a wooden folding ruler because it stays straight without being held. Before buying, pull out the blade and check whether the hook has a little play, because it compensates for the thickness of the hook in inside and outside measurements.

What EU rules say about accuracy classes

Directive 2014/32/EU on measuring instruments sets accuracy classes I, II and III for material measures of length in Annex X (MI-008). The maximum permissible error is calculated as a + bL, where L is the length rounded up to the whole metre: for class I a and b are 0.1 mm each, for class II 0.3 and 0.2, and for class III 0.6 and 0.4.

For a 5 m tape this means an error of up to 0.6 mm in class I, 1.3 mm in class II and 2.6 mm in class III, and tapes of 5 m and longer are checked under a pull of 50 newtons and at 20 °C. Montenegro is not an EU member, but many tapes from the EU carry the class marking on the blade, so for precise work look for class II or I.

What to check before buying

1. Length: 5 m for the home, 8 to 10 m for rooms and terraces.
2. Blade width: 19 or 25 mm so the blade does not bend.
3. Hook: a little play and ideally a magnet.
4. Lock: so the blade stays out without holding.
5. Accuracy class: a II or I marking on the blade.

How we measured and what we did not measure

We copied prices from Okov and KIPS on the day of the check; the medians are ours. We did not count tailor's tapes, circular saw guide scales or micrometers. Length, blade width and laser range were taken from product names. We did not check the accuracy class or the actual error of the tapes.
