At Okov we took 18 guns from six searches. Manual guns cost €3.39 for a Schuller with a toothed rod, €5.99 and €7.99 for Schuller Marathon, €9.99 for Total, €10.99 for Wolfcraft MG200 ERGO, €11.80 for Schuller Profi, €12.99 for Neo and €14.99 for Schuller Marathon Flex. For 400 ml cartridges and sausages the Schuller Special costs €17.90, Alurohr €23.90 and Wolfcraft MG400 ERGO €24.90, the 600 ml Alurohr €37.90 and the Fischer KP M2 €59.90.
A Profiair pneumatic gun costs €44.90, and an 18 V Einhell cordless gun without a battery €119.00. PU foam guns cost €16.99 for Topex, €23.49 for Sudal and €44.90 for Fischer. Gun-grade PU foam in 750 ml cans costs from €5.29 to €9.39, gun cleaner €6.39 and a nozzle for a caulking gun €0.49.
Guns at KIPS
At KIPS we took 12 guns from five searches. Ciret manual guns cost €3.85, €5.29 and €7.95 for a stainless one, Mimont Profi €9.98, a gun for 700 ml tile sealant €18.80, and a TKK sausage gun for 600 ml €24.79.
PU foam guns cost €10.91 and €18.38 for Würth and €19.83 for Mimont, and Makita cordless caulking guns from €224.90 to €249.90 without a battery. Gun-grade PU foam in 750 ml cans costs from €6.49 for TKK to €10.23 for Würth polystyrene foam.
Which gun to choose
For occasional sealing of a bath or sink a manual gun from €3.39 to €7.99 is enough, but it should have a sturdy frame and a release that stops the flow when you let go of the trigger. Dearer manual guns have a higher thrust ratio, so thick silicone, adhesive and acrylic come out more easily and evenly, without cramping your hand. A gun for sausages and larger cartridges from 400 to 700 ml is used for many joints, facades and chemical anchors.
A PU foam gun is a separate tool: the can screws onto the gun and the foam is metered with a screw at the end. The gun is cleaned with PU foam cleaner, and dearer models with a Teflon coating are easier to clean. Gun-grade foam in a 750 ml can gives a smoother and more precise joint than ordinary foam with a straw.

How to use a caulking gun
Cut off the tip of the cartridge above the thread, screw on the nozzle and cut it at an angle to the width of the joint. Put the cartridge in the gun, pull the trigger until silicone comes out and move the gun evenly, at an angle, without stopping. Smooth the joint straight away with a finger or a spatula moistened with soapy water, and clean and dry the surface before sealing, because silicone does not stick to a damp or greasy surface.
What EU rules require on a can of PU foam
A can of PU foam is an aerosol dispenser. Council Directive 75/324/EEC, in the consolidated version of 12 February 2018, requires in Article 8 that every can bears the name and address or trade mark of whoever places it on the market, the symbol "3" as proof of conformity, the filling batch code and the net contents by weight and by volume. Under point 2.2 of the Annex, the can also carries the hazard marking for aerosols, and a consumer product the precaution to keep it out of the reach of children.
Under point 3.1 of the Annex a metal can may not have a total capacity above 1 000 ml. Montenegro is not an EU member, but PU foam from the EU arrives with these markings; do not leave the can in the sun or in a hot car, and do not pierce or burn it when empty.

How we measured and what we did not
We copied prices from Okov and KIPS on the day of the check; we calculated the medians ourselves. We did not count nozzles, cleaners, hot-glue guns, paint guns, nail guns, washing and tyre-inflating guns, and at Okov and KIPS we took only the first page of results. The sample of guns is small, so the medians by type should be read as a guide. We did not measure thrust ratio or durability.
