Mixers at Okov

At Okov the searches for miješalica and mješalica returned three concrete mixers. The 700 W Limex 125LS/6 costs €349.90, the 700 W Altrad 165LS on 230 V €399.90, and a 260 l mixer €1,650. The search for mješalica on its own mostly returns rakija stills with a stirrer, so it has to be spelled with the letter i.

The search for mješalica za malter returned two electric mixers. The 1400 W Einhell TC-MX 1400-2 E for paint and mortar costs €119, and the 1600 W Schuller Easy Mix SX60 €134.

Mixers and paddles at KIPS and on Ananas

At KIPS the search for mješalica returned one 130 l concrete mixer, at €379.46, and the search for mješač three electric mixers and eight paddles. The 1400 W INGCO MX214008 costs €119, the 1800 W INGCO MX218008 with two chucks €124.99 instead of €159.90, and the 960 W Makita UT1200 €224.90. MTX paddles cost from €2.99 for 60x400 mm to €17.99 for an M14 of 140x590 mm, INGCO €12.90 and €14.90, and a blade for the Makita mixer €12.90.

On Ananas the searches for mješalica and mikser za malter returned no concrete mixers, but seven paddles. Beorol paddles cost from €7.37 for plaster and levelling compound to €16.20 for an SDS double spiral, and Bormann M14 from €9.95 to €11.90.

What to use for which job

For a bucket of mortar, tile adhesive or paint a paddle on a strong drill or an electric mixer is enough, because a concrete mixer is not needed there. An electric mixer with two speeds and a stronger motor of 1400 W or more mixes thick mortar and adhesive more easily, while a drill quickly overheats doing it. A 125 to 165 l concrete mixer is enough for a fence foundation, a path, a screed or a smaller slab, where concrete is mixed in batches.

For larger concreting, ready-mixed concrete from a batching plant or a rented mixer is better value, and buying makes sense if building goes on for months. Place the mixer on flat, firm ground close to where the concrete is placed, because carrying full wheelbarrows across the yard is slow and hard. Wash the mixer with water after work before the concrete hardens, and check whether it runs on 230 V, because some larger ones need a three-phase connection. What the EU says about crystalline silica dust

Directive (EU) 2017/2398, which amends the directive on carcinogens at work, states in recital 18 that there is sufficient evidence of the carcinogenicity of respirable crystalline silica dust, and in its Annex introduces a limit value of 0.1 mg/m³ for that dust. Such dust arises when cutting, grinding and drilling concrete, stone and brick, but also when tipping dry cement and sand.

Montenegro is not an EU member, but when loading a mixer with dry material and cutting concrete wear a dust mask of at least FFP2 and work outdoors or with water. Cement is also corrosive to skin, so wear gloves and safety glasses.

What to check before buying

1. Drum volume: and how much concrete actually fits in one batch.
2. Connection: 230 V or three-phase.
3. Wheels and height: so you can move the mixer easily and tip it into a wheelbarrow.
4. Mixer power: from 1400 W for thick mortar.
5. Paddle thread: M14 or SDS to match the tool.

How we measured and what we did not measure

We copied prices from Okov, KIPS and Ananas on the day we read them, with the pre-discount price where shown; the medians are ours. From the searches we removed rakija stills, kitchen mixers, tap cartridges, wooden stirrers for ajvar and toys. We did not measure how much concrete the mixers actually mix per hour.
