Rewiring a Flat in Montenegro: Price per m², Duration and What the Job Must Include (2026)

In Montenegro rewiring a flat is searched for with a price per unit: on 24 September 2026 Google completed zamjena elektroinstalacija (rewiring) with u stanu (in a flat) and cijena (price), and elektroinstalacije cijena (electrical installation price) with po izlazu (per outlet), po izvodu (per point), po m2 (per m²), po rasvjetnom mjestu (per light point) and 2026. The queries elektroinstalacije podgorica, fid sklopka za kupatilo (RCD for the bathroom) and razvodna tabla sa automatskim osiguračima cena (consumer unit with circuit breakers price) also exist. The same searches in English and Russian return nothing for Montenegro.

This guide gives prices from two Montenegrin price lists, per square metre and per flat, what the job must include, how long it takes and a calculation for a 60 m² flat.

Prices per square metre and per item

Gradjevina.org, which works with several crews and states that an engineer oversees every job, publishes these prices and describes them as indicative for the Montenegrin market in 2026:

Emanuel Gruppe of Podgorica publishes a rewiring price by floor area and, separately, prices for protective equipment:

The same source gives from €1,800 for spaces up to 50 m², and from €4,000 for 80 m² and above. For new installations in a flat it gives from €35 per m², plus €10 to €20 per m² for smart-home preparation.

Example: a 60 m² flat

This is our calculation from the published prices, not a quote:

• per square metre, first price list: 60 m² × €25 to €50 = €1,500 to €3,000;
• per flat, second price list: for 50 to 80 m², €2,500 to €3,800;
• afterwards: patching the chases, skimming and repainting, which are not part of the electrical price.

In the first source the consumer unit is a separate item, €200 to €600, so ask whether it is included in the per-m² price.

What the job must include

In its guide to rewiring, the first source lists these basics:

1. A list of points room by room before the quote; today, according to that guide, the minimum is 4 to 6 sockets per room, plus 10 to 20% spare points.
2. A separate breaker for each heavy load: cooker, water heater, air conditioner and washing machine.
3. A new consumer unit with circuit breakers and an RCD, which cuts the power when current leaks to earth.
4. Separate protection for the bathroom and verified earthing.
5. A test report at the end: insulation resistance, loop and RCD test.
6. A fiscal invoice: the Tax Administration runs the electronic fiscalisation system, so a registered contractor's invoice should go through it.

For an average two-bedroom flat, the same source reckons four to seven working days for the electrical part, plus patching and painting. If the plumbing is also being replaced, both jobs are done at the same time, because the walls are opened only once.

How the work proceeds

According to the same guide, the order is: marking out the routes, chasing channels and holes for the boxes, which is the dustiest day, laying conduit and pulling cables, fitting the new consumer unit, then connecting and testing. In a refurbishment the old installation is switched off in parts, so the changeover is planned to keep the flat usable. Mostly the whole flat is chased; the exception is plasterboard walls, where cables run through the frame.

As the owner, empty or cover the furniture, because chasing raises fine dust, and decide the positions of heavy loads in advance. Plan points around the furniture layout, not around empty walls: the most expensive socket is the one added later to a finished wall.

When rewiring is urgent

As signs not to ignore, the first source lists a burning smell at sockets, warm sockets or switches, sparking, lights that flicker when a heavy appliance switches on and breakers that trip for no clear reason. Quieter signs of age are aluminium wiring, which it identifies by grey cores and which was standard from the '60s to the '80s, rewireable fuses, wiring without earth and the absence of an RCD.

The same source warns that a stronger breaker is not the answer to tripping, because the breaker protects the cable's cross-section. As the minimum until full rewiring can be done, it lists an RCD, verified earthing and separate circuits for heavy loads. Who does electrical work on Glatko

On 24 September 2026 the electrical renovation category had six verified profiles, and there were eight electricians in total, six in Podgorica and two in Budva. One Podgorica firm explicitly lists new installations and refurbishment of existing ones, both power and low-voltage, in its description. Of the 25 requests the platform received between 24 April and 28 June 2026, one was for electrical repairs and expired without an agreement, and none was for rewiring.
