PP-Y and NYM installation cables have a median of €1.86 per metre, flexible cables €1.12 and underground cables €7.82, and 3x2.5 installation cable costs from €1.51 to €1.66 per metre.

Cables at Okov
At Okov we took 32 cables from four searches, with a median of €1.29 per metre. NYM installation cable costs €0.79 for 2x1.5, €1.05 for 3x1.5, €1.45 for 4x1.5, €1.66 for 3x2.5, €1.73 for 5x1.5, €2.79 for 5x2.5, €1.99 for 3x4 and €4.55 for 5x4, and PPY 3x2.5 €1.51. Okov notes with the NYM cable that it must not be laid directly in the ground.
H05VV-F flexible cable costs from €1.12 for 3x1.5 to €2.99 for 5x2.5, and 3x2.5 from €1.83 to €1.89. The thinner H03VV-F costs from €0.42 to €0.83 per metre.
Cables at KIPS
At KIPS we took 97 cables and wires from four searches, with a median of €2.56 per metre. PP-Y installation cable costs €1.02 for 3x1.5, €1.31 for 4x1.5, €1.63 for 3x2.5, €1.68 for 5x1.5, €2.56 for 3x4, €2.70 for 5x2.5, €4.30 for 5x4, €6.16 for 5x6, €10.80 for 5x10 and €16.83 for 5x16. PP/J flexible cable costs €1.29 for 3x1.5, €2.13 for 3x2.5 and €3.52 for 5x2.5.
Copper PP00-Y underground cable costs €1.42 for 3x1.5, €2.16 for 3x2.5 and €3.53 for 5x2.5, and aluminium PP00-A from €2.82 for 4x16 to €32.42 for 4x240. N2XH halogen-free cable costs €1.42 for 3x1.5, €2.15 for 3x2.5 and €3.55 for 5x2.5. Single wires cost from €0.20 for 0.75 mm², from €0.36 to €0.39 for 1.5 mm² and from €0.56 to €0.60 for 2.5 mm², up to €23.21 for 95 mm².
What 3x1.5 and 3x2.5 cost
A metre of 3x1.5 cable costs €1.02 for PP-Y and €1.05 for NYM, €1.12 for H05VV-F, €1.29 for PP/J, and €1.42 for underground and halogen-free cable. A metre of 3x2.5 cable costs €1.51 for PPY, €1.63 for PP-Y, €1.66 for NYM, €1.83 for H05VV-F, €2.13 for PP/J, €2.15 for halogen-free and €2.16 for underground cable. For thirty metres of 3x2.5 PP-Y you will pay about fifty euros, without boxes, conduit and labour.
Which cable for what
PP-Y and NYM installation cables have solid copper cores and are laid in the wall, in conduit or in trunking, while H05VV-F and PP/J flexible cables have fine strands and are used for extension leads and appliances that move. PP00 underground cable has stronger insulation and is laid in the ground, for example to garden lighting or a garage, while N2XH halogen-free cable does not release toxic halogen gases when burning, so it is chosen for corridors, public buildings and enclosed spaces.
Lighting usually uses a 1.5 mm² cross-section and sockets 2.5 mm², while a cooker, water heater or air conditioner needs a bigger cross-section and its own circuit, which the electrician decides. A five-core cable is for a three-phase installation and a three-core one for a single-phase installation, and the yellow-green core is always the protective earth. Do not lay a thinner cable than the breaker calls for, because the cable overheats before the breaker trips.

Which fire performance classes the EU sets for cables
Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2016/364 provides in Article 1 that the reaction to fire of construction products is classified under the system in the Annex, and Table 4 of the Annex gives the classes for electric cables: Aca, B1ca, B2ca, Cca, Dca, Eca and Fca. For class Eca the flame in the EN 60332-1-2 test must not spread more than 425 mm, and higher classes also require less heat release.
For classes from B1ca to Dca the regulation adds markings for smoke, flaming droplets and acidity of gases. Montenegro is not an EU member, but cables from the EU and the region are sold with these markings, so look for the class on the drum or in the declaration of performance, especially for corridors, staircases and commercial premises.

We did not count telephone, computer, coaxial, speaker and control cables, fire-resistant NHXH, self-supporting and welding cables, or fixed-length cables. Type and cross-section were taken from product names. We did not check fire class or copper cross-section.
