On 29 September 2026 adhesive tapes cost from €0.49 for a 15 mm, 10 m Schuller insulating tape at Okov to €16.49 for a 5 m Tesa mounting tape at Okov, with a median of €2.49 across 127 tapes from two shops. Insulating tape has a median of €1.19, masking tape €1.94, packing tape €2.69, double-sided and mounting tape €4.89, and cloth, duct and aluminium tape €5.29. Clear tape costs from €0.59 to €2.99.

Tapes at Okov

At Okov we took 76 tapes from nine searches, with a median of €1.99. A 15 mm, 10 m Schuller insulating tape costs from €0.49 to €0.59, a Tesa of the same size €0.89, 19 mm, 20 m Emos and Schuller €1.19 and Tesa €1.79. A 25 mm, 5 m Amio costs €2.19, a 50 mm Schuller €2.39 and €2.49, and a Tesa heat-resistant cloth tape €2.99.

Schuller and Tape International masking tapes cost from €0.99 to €2.89, Universal from €1.69 to €3.79, and Tesa car refinishing tape €1.99 and €2.49. Schuller double-sided tapes cost from €1.99 to €6.79, Tesa mounting tape €8.19 and €16.49, and floor tapes from €2.49 to €14.29. Packing tapes cost from €1.69 to €2.69, Schuller Duck tape €5.99, aluminium tape €2.49 and €2.89, and Tesa clear tape €0.59 and €0.79 and with a dispenser from €1.29 to €2.99.

At KIPS we took 51 tapes from nine searches, with a median of €4.29. 20 m insulating tapes cost €0.72 and €0.79, Wonder €1.15, and a 15 mm insulating tape €2.99. Ciret masking tapes cost from €0.79 to €3.15, Jugohemika from €1.52 to €2.82, and a blue Mimont €2.47.

Packing tapes cost from €3.79 to €5.39, double-sided and mounting tapes from €1.75 for Ciret to €11.63 for Bison carpet tape, and carpet tapes from €2.99 to €12.79. Cloth tapes cost €3.99, Ciret duct tape €4.89, 10 m tapes from €4.59 to €5.29, 25 m tapes from €4.49 to €9.99, and 50 m tapes €11.29 and €11.99.

What a metre of insulating tape costs

A 15 mm, 10 m Schuller insulating tape costs about €0.06 per metre, a 19 mm, 20 m Tesa about €0.09, and a 20 m tape at KIPS about €0.04 per metre. The difference lies in thickness, adhesive and heat resistance: cheap tape comes unstuck in sun and heat, while a better one holds longer and leaves no adhesive. Colours are for marking cores, yellow-green for the protective conductor.

Which tape to choose

Insulating tape is for insulating and marking joints, but it is no substitute for a proper junction box and connector. Masking tape is for masking when painting: white for indoor and short use, blue and orange for longer hold and outdoors. Remove it while the paint is still wet so it does not pull paint off the wall.

Double-sided tape fixes mirrors, skirting and carpets, while mounting tape holds heavier items on a flat surface. Cloth and duct tape are strong and water-resistant for temporary repairs, and aluminium tape is for ventilation, pipe insulation and hot surfaces. For packing, cheap 48 mm tapes are enough.

What EU rules say about chlorinated paraffins in PVC

Regulation (EU) 2019/1021 on persistent organic pollutants, in the consolidated version of 1 January 2026, prohibits in Article 3 the manufacturing, placing on the market and use of the substances in Annex I, on their own, in mixtures or in articles. Annex I includes short-chain chlorinated paraffins (SCCPs), which were used as plasticisers and flame retardants in PVC and rubber.

The Annex allows only traces: an article may contain less than 0.15 % SCCPs by weight, and a mixture less than 1 %. Montenegro is not an EU member, but tapes from well-known manufacturers that are also sold in the EU must meet these limits, and tape that smells strongly or becomes sticky and crumbly is better not used on cables.

What to check before buying

1. Type: insulating, masking, double-sided, cloth or aluminium.
2. Width and length: mm and m on the roll.
3. Temperature: heat resistance for outdoor and hot work.
4. Adhesive: removes without residue, especially for masking tape.
5. Manufacturer: brand and origin on the packaging.

How we measured and what we did not measure

We copied prices from Okov and KIPS on the day of the check; we calculated the medians and the price per metre ourselves. We did not count waterproofing, bitumen and butyl tapes, cargo straps, warning, anti-slip, sanitary and car tapes, or insect tapes. Type and dimensions were taken from product names. We did not measure adhesion, heat resistance or tape composition.
