On 28 September 2026 an axe at Okov costs from €7.99 to €99.90, with a median of €33.20 across 30 axes. At KIPS 21 axes cost from €9.83 to €112.99, with a median of €22.99, and on Ananas 27 axes from €9.60 to €112.50, with a median of €22.97. Fiskars splitting axes at Okov cost from €69.90 to €99.90.

What people search for

In Google Trends for Montenegro over the last 12 months, the term sjekira (axe), compared with usisivac (vacuum cleaner), had a value of 0 in every week, and Trends had too little data for related queries. So searches are small compared with household appliances.

On 28 September 2026 Google completed sjekira with okov, za cijepanje drva (for splitting wood), za drva (for wood), fiskars, cijena (price), za cijepanje (for splitting), viking, za cjepač (splitting maul) and za meso prodaja (for meat, for sale). So people search for the shop, a firewood splitting axe and the Fiskars brand.

Axes at Okov

At Okov the first page of the search for sjekira had 30 axes and one sharpener. The cheapest are the Total 600 g and 800 g and the Hobby S. Trend 600 g at €7.99 each, then the 800 g SK058 and the 1000 g Total at €9.99 each and the Strend Pro 1250 g at €14.99. The S. Trend 800 g carpenter's axe costs €11.99, a builder's axe with a wooden handle €21.90, and the Viking €24.90.

TKSL all-purpose axes with a wooden handle cost €22.90 for 0.5 kg, €29.90 for 1.2 kg and €39.90 for 2 kg, and the Viga Bosnian axe of 1.6 kg €33.50. The Fiskars X5 costs €42.90 and €49.90, the X7 €54.90, and the X10 builder's axe €59.90. Fiskars splitting axes cost €69.90 for the X11, €74.90 for the X17, €84.90 for the X21, €94.90 for the X25 and €99.90 for the X27 with a 915 mm handle. A forged Halder of 1000 g costs €99.90.

Axes at KIPS and on Ananas

At KIPS the search for sjekira returned 23 results, of which 21 axes and two packs of wedges. The INGCO 600 g costs €9.99, the 1000 g €14.99, and the 1250 g €12.99 instead of €19.99. A 600 g axe costs €9.83, and an 800 g one €11.59. Professional all-purpose axes cost from €21.70 for 0.5 kg to €39.50 for 2 kg, a 2.5 kg splitting maul with a 90 cm handle €31.99, and a 3.63 kg axe €40.99. The Energo U600 costs €42.99, the C2000 €67.99, and a 2800 g axe €112.99.

On Ananas the search for sjekira returned 33 results, and six are Akser furniture. The Emtop 600 g costs €9.60, Bormann €9.90, and Maurer €9.99 and €10.95. The Tolsen firewood splitting axe costs €16.02 for 1250 g and €20.70 for 1500 g, and the Stihl €39. Bolzz camping axes cost €18 and €19.50, and forged Bolzz axes €60, €63.75 and €112.50.

How to choose an axe

For kindling and light splitting a light axe up to 800 g with a short handle is enough. The cheapest cost from €7.99, while professional and branded ones of the same weight cost from €21.70 to €32.90, for example the Nakayama 650 g at €26.90 on Ananas. For splitting logs you need a heavier axe or a maul of 1.5 to 2.5 kg with a handle of 70 to 90 cm, because a longer handle gives a bigger swing. A fibreglass handle is easier to maintain, while a wooden one can be replaced when it breaks.

What must be written on an axe under EU rules

In Article 9, paragraphs 5 to 7, Regulation (EU) 2023/988 on general product safety requires the manufacturer to put a type, batch or serial number on the product, its name or registered trade mark, its postal and electronic address, and to supply clear instructions and safety information in a language the consumer understands. If there is no room on the product, the details go on the packaging or in an accompanying document. The regulation applies from 13 December 2024.

Montenegro is not an EU member, but all three shops sell axes with no brand in the name, for example the builder's axe with a wooden handle at Okov or the 600 and 800 g axes at KIPS. Before buying, check whether the axe or its packaging shows the manufacturer and address, because without them a complaint is hard to pursue.

On Glatko

On 28 September 2026 Glatko had 1 verified provider for garden and pool (Podgorica) and 1 for small repairs (Budva).

What to check before buying

1. The head weight: up to 800 g for kindling, 1.5 to 2.5 kg for splitting.
2. The handle length: short for one hand, 70 to 90 cm for splitting.
3. The handle material: fibreglass or wood.
4. A blade guard for storage and transport.
5. The manufacturer and address on the axe or packaging.

How we measured and what we did not measure

We copied prices from Okov, KIPS and Ananas on the day we read them, with the pre-discount price where shown; the medians and grouping by use are ours. We took the weight and handle length from the name. At Okov we read the first page of the search, and we removed the sharpener, wedges and furniture. We did not measure steel hardness or sharpness.
