Thermometers in Montenegro: prices of body, room, kitchen and infrared thermometers at the drugstore, Okov, KIPS and on Ananas (2026)
On 28 September 2026 a digital body thermometer at the Kuća hemije drugstore costs €5.39, and a contactless infrared one €59.39. On Ananas infrared thermometers cost from €16 to €50. Indoor and outdoor thermometers at Okov cost from €1.90 to €20.90, kitchen probe ones at KIPS from €6.40, and a fridge thermometer from €1.21 on Ananas. Since the end of 2020 mercury thermometers may not be made, imported or exported in the EU.

Body thermometers
At the Kuća hemije drugstore the search for toplomjer returned three results: the digital PIC Vedo Family for €5.39, the PIC Vedo Eco for €8.79 and the contactless infrared Auron FR 200 for €59.39. On Ananas the handheld infrared Kernel MDI231 costs €16, the contactless Kikka Boo €32, and the Zepter infrared ear thermometer €50.
The median of these six thermometers is €24, and the most expensive is 11 times the price of the cheapest. A digital thermometer measures under the arm or in the mouth and takes longer, while an infrared one measures in a second or two from the forehead or ear, so parents choose it for babies who will not keep still.
Room, kitchen and other thermometers
At Okov the first page of the search for termometar had 31 thermometers. TFA indoor and outdoor ones cost from €1.99 to €15.99, the wooden Woody €1.90, a digital indoor one €7.59, and a digital indoor and outdoor one €9.99. The TFA Ratio costs €20.90. A kitchen thermometer with a long probe costs €12.49, one with a probe €19.50, the Leifheit €17.99, a roasting thermometer €5.39, a Lacor oven thermometer €7.99 and a meat thermometer €6.99. For the fridge, TFA costs €1.99 and Lacor €6.29.
Infrared thermometers for measuring surfaces at Okov cost €19.90 for the Total, €24.90 and €34.90 for NEO, €39.90 for Raxx and €49.90 for Bahco. They measure a wall, a radiator or an oven, not the body.
At KIPS the search for termometar returned eight thermometers: a wooden indoor one €1.99, a floating one €3.99, a stainless steel probe one €6.40, one for milk €10.99, one for wine €11.99, a digital probe one €12.50, an INGCO up to 450 °C €12.99 and a household one €15.50.
On Ananas Maurer room thermometers cost from €1.68 to €2.95, Verdemax from €2.60 to €6.95, a digital Min-Max €13, and a Cangaroo with a clock and hygrometer €33.80. For the freezer Maurer costs from €1.21, a digital one €8.32. The Maurer kitchen thermometer with a stainless steel probe costs €8.09, Bormann €13.65, Tescoma Presto €28.85, and a Bormann with WiFi €65. A Bosch infrared costs €55.16. Baby bath thermometers cost €3.50 for Canpol, €7 for Kikka Boo and €9.90 for Chicco, and Canpol €3.79 at the drugstore.
When each thermometer is worth it
For a sick child a €5.39 digital thermometer is enough if the child keeps still, while an infrared one makes sense when you measure often or at night. A €2 room thermometer shows whether a baby's room is warm enough, and a kitchen probe one whether the meat is done. Do not use a workshop infrared thermometer to measure body temperature, because it is not calibrated for that.

Mercury thermometers under EU rules
In Article 5, Regulation (EU) 2017/852 on mercury prohibits the export, import and manufacture of the mercury-added products listed in Annex II. Part A of that annex, in point 9, lists non-electronic measuring devices, among them thermometers, barometers and blood pressure devices, with a ban from 31 December 2020. The only exceptions are devices in large-scale equipment, devices more than 50 years old on 3 October 2007 and those for museum exhibitions.
Montenegro is not an EU member, but if you have an old mercury thermometer at home, do not throw it in the bin, and if it breaks, do not vacuum up the mercury. From the names in our searches we could not tell whether any glass gallium thermometer is sold in these shops.

What to check before buying
- The purpose: body, room, kitchen, fridge or workshop.
- How a fever thermometer measures: armpit and mouth, forehead or ear.
- The battery and whether it can be replaced.
- The range: kitchen up to 300 °C, workshop infrared even higher.
- That it is not mercury, if you are buying a used or old thermometer.
How we measured and what we did not measure
We copied prices from the Kuća hemije drugstore, Okov, KIPS and Ananas on the day we read them; the grouping by type and the median are ours. At Okov we read the first page of the search, and from Ananas we removed radio clocks, radiator covers, baby baths, heaters, lamps and bedding. We did not measure thermometer accuracy.
