Preserving jars and ajvar equipment in Montenegro: prices of jars, lids, stirrers and pepper roasters at KIPS, on Ananas and at Okov (2026)

On 28 September 2026 a 720 ml preserving jar costs €0.22 at KIPS, €0.27 on Ananas and €1.49 at Okov, 6.8 times the KIPS price. A lid costs from €0.06 to €0.25, an ajvar stirrer from €2.60 to €3.10, and a pepper roaster at KIPS €19.99 and €24.99. Twenty 720 ml jars with lids cost €7.60 at KIPS and €29.80 at Okov.

What people search for and when

In Google Trends for Montenegro over the last 12 months, the term ajvar (roasted pepper relish), compared with usisivac (vacuum cleaner), had an average of 7, but in September 2026 it scored 44, 36, 40 and 52, almost as much as usisivac (51, 51, 55 and 60). Last autumn was the same: 34 in the week from 21 September 2025, 52 from 28 September and 37 from 5 October. Trends listed mamas ajvar (a brand), moc planine ajvar (a brand) and ajvar od barenih paprika (ajvar from boiled peppers) as rising queries. The term tegle (jars) scored 12 and 14 in the weeks from 13 and 20 September, highest in Tivat, Herceg Novi and Podgorica, and the top related query was tegle za zimnicu (jars for preserves).

On 28 September 2026 Google completed tegle za zimnicu (jars for preserves) with podgorica, maxi, cena (price), cenoteka, metro, beograd, prodaja (sale), novi sad and uradi sam (do it yourself), and tegle (jars) with sa poklopcem (with lid), za med (for honey), okov, za zimnicu (for preserves), podgorica, kalija, crna gora and cena (price). It completed pec za paprike (pepper roaster) with za pecenje paprike (for roasting peppers), uradi sam (do it yourself), kupujemprodajem, cena (price), trio and novi sad. So people look for shops, price and pepper roasters.

Jars at KIPS

At KIPS the search for tegle (jars) returned 91 results, mostly corks, bottles and pepper seeds, and there were five preserving jars. A 314 ml glass jar costs €0.19 instead of €0.23, a 720 ml Quartz €0.22 instead of €0.30, a 330 ml jar €0.25, a 1,000 ml one €0.50 and a 1,700 ml one €0.59 instead of €0.85. An 82 mm lid costs from €0.12 to €0.16, and a jar-filling funnel €1.50.

For ajvar KIPS sells a 50 cm wooden stirrer for €2.70 and a 70 cm one for €3.10, a smaller pepper roaster for €19.99 instead of €27.99 and a larger one for €24.99 instead of €29.99.

Jars on Ananas and at Okov

On Ananas preserving jars are sold mainly by ANANAS SHOP: 116 ml for €0.25 and €0.27, 212 ml for €0.25 and €0.30, 370 ml for €0.30 and €0.40, a 580 ml Marable for €0.28, a 720 ml Quartz for €0.27 and a 720 ml Geneza for €0.45. Lids cost from €0.06 to €0.25, a funnel €0.50, ten lid presses €0.45 and an ajvar stirrer €2.60 and €3.

At Okov a 212 ml preserving jar costs €0.79, a 370 ml one €0.99 and a 720 ml one with a lid €1.49; a set of six 720 ml jars costs €7.99. Hermetic Borgonovo jars cost from €3.29 for 500 ml to €3.99 for 1.5 l, Zeller from €4.99 for 500 ml to €7.49 for 1.2 l, and large jars €6.69 for 2 l, €8.49 for 3 l, €10.99 for 4 l and €12.99 for 5 l. A Leifheit funnel costs €5.49.

The cost of 20 jars

By our calculation, 20 jars of 720 ml with 82 mm lids cost €7.60 at KIPS, and 20 jars with lids at Okov €29.80, with €1.33 per jar in a set of six. A 212 ml jar at Okov is 3.2 times, and a 370 ml one 3.3 times, more expensive than on Ananas. A funnel costs €0.50 on Ananas, €1.50 at KIPS and €5.49 at Okov, 11 times more.

Per litre, the 720 ml jar at KIPS costs €0.31 and the 1,700 ml one €0.35, while a 1 l hermetic jar at Okov costs €3.59 and a 5 l jar €2.60 per litre. A €19.99 pepper roaster costs as much as 91 jars of 720 ml at KIPS.

What EU rules say about the coating on the lid

Metal jar lids have a coating on the inside. Article 1 of Commission Regulation (EC) No 1895/2005 covers plastics, coatings and adhesives in contact with food that contain BADGE or related epoxy substances. Under Annex I, the combined migration of BADGE and its two hydrolysed derivatives may not exceed 9 mg per kilogram of food, and of the chlorinated derivatives 1 mg/kg, while BFDGE and NOGE are prohibited under Articles 3 and 4. Montenegro is not an EU member, but a damaged or rusty lid is worth replacing, since a lid costs from €0.06.

On Glatko

On 28 September 2026 Glatko had three verified catering and food providers, two from Budva and one from Herceg Novi, two of whom also offer home cooking.

What to check before buying

1. The jar size and how much ajvar or peppers you make.
2. The lid diameter: an 82 mm lid does not fit a 58 mm jar.
3. New lids every season, since they are cheap and the coating wears.
4. The pack: a set of six or single jars.
5. The shop, since the same 720 ml jar costs from €0.22 to €1.49.

How we measured and what we did not measure

We copied prices from KIPS, Ananas and Okov on the day we read them, with the pre-discount price where shown; the cost of 20 jars and the price per litre are ours. We took capacity from the name and removed corks, bottles, seeds, decorative spice and tea jars and openers. At Okov we read the first search page. We did not measure glass thickness or lid sealing.
