At Okov the searches for cjediljka and cediljka returned 16 kitchen colanders and sieves, two salad spinners and 11 citrus squeezers. The cheapest are the 75 mm Ghidini Daily at €1.99 and €3.69, an Alpina with a handle at €2.49 and a stainless Alpina with two handles at €2.99, and Curver Essentials at €2.99 each. The Stefanplast Tosca costs €4.99 for 28 cm and €6.49 with a lid, and a 5five with a handle €3.99 for 9 cm and €6.99 for 20 cm.

Dearer are the 20 cm Lacor at €9.99, the 180 mm Ghidini Daily at €11.59, the stainless Leifheit ProLine at €16.99, the 26 cm Lacor at €26.90 and the WMF Profi Plus at €27. A salad spinner with a handle costs €11.49 for Ghidini and €21.90 for Lurch. At KIPS the search for cjediljka returned 11 products. Metaltex aluminium colanders cost €1.09 for 7 cm, €2.09 for 14 cm, €2.39 for 18 cm and €2.69 for 20 cm, and a 14 cm stainless Ibili with a base €4.19. The 4.40 l Gondol Vega salad spinner costs €4.70, and a bowl with a colander €3.48.

On Ananas the search for cjediljka returned 49 offers, mostly electric citrus juicers. Girmi models cost from €15.90 to €49.90, Decakila from €21.25 to €34, Gorenje and Tristar €49.50 each, and the manual Bormann BFJ2000 €66.50. Among kitchen colanders Rocky Pistolato offers a 16 cm stainless one at €3.49 and a 20 cm one at €4.69, and the Tescoma Presto at €5.89 for 14 cm and €7.49 for 17 cm.

Which colander to choose

For pasta and vegetables the most practical is a colander with two handles or a base, which stands in the sink so both hands stay free for the pot. Stainless steel does not rust, does not absorb smells and is dishwasher-safe, aluminium is light and cheap, while plastic does not cope with hot water from the pot for long. A fine mesh holds rice and quinoa, and for tea and honey you need a small strainer with a handle.

For lemons and oranges a manual squeezer with a bowl is enough, while for daily juice for a family an electric one is faster, and a power of 40 to 100 W is quite sufficient. A manual lever press in stainless steel is the most expensive, but it uses no electricity and is easy to clean. Wash the colander right after use, before starch and pulp dry in the holes, and brush a fine mesh with a soft brush. On an electric juicer remove only the parts meant for washing, and wipe the motor with a damp cloth.

What the EU requires of the seller of an electric juicer

In Article 10, Directive 2014/30/EU on electromagnetic compatibility requires the distributor to check before selling that the apparatus bears the CE marking, has the required documents and instructions in a language the consumer understands, and that the manufacturer and importer have given their details. If the distributor suspects the apparatus is not compliant, it may not sell it until this is corrected.

Montenegro is not an EU member, but for an electric citrus juicer, especially one imported through platforms, check the CE marking, instructions and manufacturer. A manual squeezer and a sieve are not electrical appliances, so this rule does not apply to them.

We did not measure how much juice squeezers give or how long they last.
