Potting soil in Montenegro: prices per bag and per litre, universal and special mixes, worm humus and peat from Hawita, Florafin, Brill and Klasmann (2026)
On 29 September 2026 potting soil costs from €1.40 for 10 l of Florafin at KIPS to €29.49 for a 250 l bale of Hawita growing medium in the same shop, with a median of €5.99 across 39 bags from three shops. Per litre the price runs from €0.08 for 80 l of Humofin to €1.80 for 3 l of Substral orchid mix, with a median of €0.19 per litre.

We had no separate Google Trends query for zemlja za cvece (potting soil) and supstrat (growing medium), so we do not give a trend here.
On 28 September 2026 Google completed zemlja za cvece with cena (price) and the shop names maxi, lidl, uradi sam and idea, and supstrat with za cvece (for flowers), za orhideje (for orchids), za rasad (for seedlings), za borovnice (for blueberries) and za kaktuse (for cacti). So buyers look for soil in supermarkets and for special mixes for orchids, cacti, blueberries and seedlings.

Growing media at KIPS
At KIPS the searches for supstrat and zemlja returned 27 growing media, with a median of €5.89 per bag. Universal Florafin costs €1.40 for 10 l, €2.30 for 20 l and €4.99 for 50 l, and Humofin natural of 80 l €6.40, the cheapest litre in all three shops. Hawita Hobi costs €3.70 for 20 l, €6.39 for 40 l and €10.99 for 70 l, Potground of 70 l €11.79 and Prestopferde of 70 l €10.49. Hawita peat and growing medium bales of 250 l cost from €25.49 to €29.49.
Hawita special mixes of 15 l cost €5.40 for citrus, €5.50 for roses, €5.89 for rhododendrons and €5.99 for palms, of 5 l €3.30 for orchids and €2.60 for cacti, and of 45 l €10.30 for balcony flowers and €11.30 for surfinias. Substral of 3 l costs €2.99 for citrus, palms and cacti and €5.40 for orchids, and Terra with Osmocote fertiliser of 5 l €4.49. Hawita expanded clay, which we did not count, costs €6.49 for 10 l, €10.49 for 20 l and €18.10 for 50 l.
Potting soil at Okov and on Ananas
At Okov we found 5 soils: universal Comodo Tercomposti for €3.99 for 20 l and €6.49 for 45 l, Kraljevska zemlja worm humus for €2.49 for 5 l and €19.90 for 50 l and Agrumen citrus soil for €6.99, with no volume in the name.
Ananas had 7 growing media, with a median of €12 per bag. Universal Florahum costs €2.10 for 10 l and €3.70 for 20 l, Brill Typ 4 and Brill Typ 5 of 70 l €12 each, Florabella of 70 l €13 and the professional Klasmann seedling mix of 70 l €16. The Lechuza Pon mineral substrate of 3 l costs €4.50.
Which soil to choose
For pots on a balcony or terrace a universal growing medium is enough, and a small bag is handy but expensive: a litre in bags up to 10 l has a median of €0.90, and in bags of 70 to 80 l €0.17. For raised beds and larger planters, bags of 70 l or a 250 l bale therefore pay off, at about €0.11 per litre.
Special mixes have a different acidity and structure. Blueberries, rhododendrons and azaleas need an acidic mix, orchids a loose mix with bark and cacti a free draining mix with sand. Worm humus is not a substitute for a growing medium but is mixed into soil as an additive. A mix with fertiliser feeds the plant for several months, while a plain one needs feeding after a few weeks. Put a layer of expanded clay or gravel at the bottom of the pot and do not pack the soil down, so that water drains.

What the EU requires of growing media
Regulation (EU) 2019/1009 on fertilising products defines, in Annex I, Part II, category PFC 4, a growing medium as an EU fertilising product other than soil in situ in which plants or mushrooms grow. The same category limits contaminants, among others cadmium to 1.5 mg/kg dry matter, mercury to 1 mg/kg, nickel to 50 mg/kg and lead to 120 mg/kg.
Annex III, Part II requires the label of a growing medium to state the electrical conductivity, the pH, the quantity expressed as total volume and the production date, and Part III allows the volume to deviate by no more than 5 % from the declared value. How we measured and what we did not measure
We copied the prices from Okov, KIPS and Ananas on the day of the check and calculated the price per litre from the volume in the name; the medians are ours. We did not count bark, expanded clay, lawn mixes or pots, and at Okov the search showed only the first page of results. We did not measure pH, moisture or the composition of the mixes.
