Parquet Sanding and Varnishing in Montenegro: Price per m², Drying Times and When It Pays (2026)

In Montenegro parquet sanding, hoblovanje, is searched for together with a price: on 24 September 2026 Google completed hoblovanje parketa with cijena crna gora (price Montenegro), podgorica cijena (Podgorica price), niksic and herceg novi, hoblovanje parketa crna gora with bar crna gora, and parket podgorica with hrastov parket (oak parquet), majstor za parket (parquet fitter) and lak za parket podgorica (parquet lacquer Podgorica). The same searches in English and Russian return nothing for Montenegro.

This guide gives published prices per square metre, worked examples for a room and a flat, a comparison with a new floor and what two Montenegrin contractors say about how long the work takes.

What sanding is and when it makes sense

Sanding means grinding off the top layer of an existing parquet floor to remove old lacquer, scratches and unevenness, after which the floor is lacquered or oiled again. The job usually takes three passes of the sanding machine, from coarse to fine paper, with the joints filled between passes.

Gradjevina.org, which works with several crews and states that an engineer oversees every job, writes that classic solid parquet can take three to five sandings over its life, because each one removes about half a millimetre to a millimetre of wood, while thinner lamella parquet usually takes one or two. Laminate cannot be sanded. If the parquet has been worn too thin, or the boards are rotten and loose, the same source writes that laying a new floor is cheaper.

The same source publishes these prices and describes them as indicative for the Montenegrin market:

The same source adds that on the coast, in the season from May to September, lead times and prices are generally higher.

Examples: a room and a flat

This is our calculation from the published prices, not a quote:

• a 20 m² room, with materials: at €9 to €15, €180 to €300;
• the same room, labour only: at €5 to €8, €100 to €160, plus lacquer;
• a 60 m² flat, with materials: €540 to €900, and each coat beyond the standard two adds €120 to €240.

Smaller rooms mean more edges and corners, which is why the source lists floor area and the number of rooms among the price factors.

Sanding or a new floor

For comparison, the same source also publishes labour prices for new parquet, without materials:

For a 20 m² room, the labour alone for gluing new parquet comes to €240 to €400, before the parquet and adhesive, while sanding with lacquer comes to €180 to €300. As long as the parquet is thick enough and the boards are sound, restoring it is cheaper than replacing it.

How long it takes and when you can walk on it

A second contractor, hoblovanje.me from Podgorica, writes on its website that for a 20 m² space the sanding and the first coat can be finished in one day, that each coat needs 4 to 6 hours to dry and that it applies three coats of water-based lacquer as standard. It recommends sanding a home's floors every 5 to 10 years.

Gradjevina.org writes that fresh lacquer should not be walked on for about 24 hours, and that rugs and the heaviest furniture should go back only after seven days. Sanding is done once all dusty work is finished, so if you are also planning repainting, let the painter finish before the parquet fitter comes.

Lacquer you buy yourself

If you take the labour-only price, you buy the lacquer. At the Okov store in Podgorica on 24 September 2026, a two-component polyurethane parquet lacquer in a 1 l + 1 l set cost €28.90, for in-store pickup only. The product page does not state coverage per square metre, so ask the fitter how many sets your floor needs before you buy.

What the classifieds show

On 24 September 2026 the Servisi i usluge (services) section of oglasi.me had 1,399 listings. Only four mentioned parquet in the title: three Montenegrin ones offer dismantling or removal of old parquet, two of them along with demolishing walls and removing rubble, and one is from Novi Sad. No Montenegrin listing offered sanding, and none of the four gave a price.

What to ask the parquet fitter

1. How much wood is left. Gradjevina.org writes that an engineer checks the remaining thickness before starting, because thin parquet cannot be sanded endlessly.
2. How many passes and whether joints are filled: three sandings and filling are included in the price with materials.
3. Lacquer or oil, how many coats and whose: the price list shows each coat beyond the standard two as a separate item.
4. A machine with dust extraction: both contractors say they use machines with vacuum extraction.
5. When you can walk on it and move furniture back, in writing in the quote.
6. A fiscal invoice: the Tax Administration runs the electronic fiscalisation system, so a registered contractor's invoice should go through it.

Who does floors on Glatko

On 24 September 2026 no verified profile on Glatko listed parquet sanding. The flooring category had one profile, a tradesperson from Tivat; two Podgorica renovation profiles list laying laminate in their descriptions, and one of them parquet as well. Of the 25 requests the platform received between 24 April and 28 June 2026, none was for a floor.

We did not check the quality of work, actual prices in quotes or prices in other towns. The labour prices come from one published price list, and the lacquer price from one shop on one day.
