Living in Tivat: the Airport Town, Porto Montenegro and the Trades You Can Book

This guide answers what we can measure: who lives in Tivat, how the airport and the bay shape everyday trips, and which home services you can actually book. Rents, property prices, the cost of living and safety are outside it.

Who lives in Tivat

Tivat municipality had 16,338 residents at the 2023 census, the smallest population of the coastal municipalities. MONSTAT's census release on citizenship counts 3,206 foreign citizens, 19.62% of the population. Only Budva has a higher share (31.86%); the national figure is 7.52%, Herceg Novi's 17.37% and Kotor's 8.97%. The largest groups:

Russian and Serbian citizens are almost equally numerous here, which is not the case in Budva or Herceg Novi, where Russians clearly lead. The 192 Turkish citizens are a group of their own, larger than the Ukrainian one.

The airport on the doorstep

Tivat is the only coastal town with an airport inside its municipality, and that shapes the whole map. Road distances from the town centre, on OpenStreetMap routing run on 24 September 2026:

The routing engine allows only about 5 minutes for the Lepetane–Kamenari crossing, so add the official 15 minutes and any queue. Under the operator's timetable, the summer plan, valid until 14 October 2026, has departures every 15 to 20 minutes, day and night; last winter's plan ran every 20 minutes from 06:00 to midnight. On the price list, residents of Tivat and Herceg Novi pay €3 for a car ticket all year.

For comparison, Tivat airport is 8.4 km from Kotor and 20.5 km from Budva by road.

Porto Montenegro, boats and a school

The former naval base is now the Porto Montenegro marina, and boats are part of the town's everyday demand. Tivat's only request on Glatko so far was about a boat (see below), and our yacht cleaning guide covers what owners in the Bay of Kotor pay for that work.

The tivat international school search has a concrete answer: according to its own website, Knightsbridge Schools International Montenegro teaches the IB curriculum, offers boarding and is located in Porto Montenegro. We did not check fees or places.

What you can book in Tivat itself

On 24 September 2026 the platform had two verified professionals based in Tivat:

• a tradesman working in Turkish, with a 20 km radius and 10 years of declared experience, for painting, plumbing, tiling, drywall and flooring;
• a company working in English, German, Serbian, Montenegrin and Ukrainian, with a 15 km radius and 30 years of declared experience, for plumbing repairs and plumbing in renovations.

What is missing in town is an electrician, a cleaner and an air-conditioning installer: none is based in Tivat.

Who comes to Tivat from elsewhere

Tivat is small, but it is close to Kotor (11 km), Herceg Novi (19 km by ferry) and Budva (23 km). Thirty more verified professionals are based elsewhere and declare a radius that reaches Tivat by road, which brings the number of categories covering the town to 77:

• electrics: 6 profiles, from Budva and Podgorica, see electricians;
• plumbing: 4 more, from Budva, Podgorica and Bar, on top of the two based in town;
• painting: 4 more, from Budva, Podgorica and Bar;
• cleaning: 3 for deep cleaning, from Budva and Podgorica, and 2 for regular cleaning, both from Budva;
• air conditioning: 1 installer, from Herceg Novi;
• removals: 1 professional from Herceg Novi covering 200 km.

A declared radius is what the professional says, not a promise to come for every job. Podgorica is 83 km away, so for a small job ask up front whether the trip is charged.

What happened to Tivat's requests

Between 24 April and 28 June 2026 the platform received 25 requests, and one came from Tivat: on 17 May a customer writing in English asked for a catamaran to be cleaned inside and out. The request expired on 24 May without a single quote, although a Kotor-based profile offering hull cleaning, verified on 8 May, covered Tivat. One request is not a trend, but it shows where the town's demand sits.

Who Tivat suits

On these numbers, Tivat suits people who fly often, families who want an English-language international school nearby, and boat owners who want the marina on their doorstep. It suits less well anyone who needs a wide choice of tradespeople based in their own town: with two local profiles, most home services in Tivat come from Kotor, Budva or Podgorica.
