Tendance suction holders cost €5.99, €9.99 and €17.99, a Tatay Olympia ring €6.99, and the stainless Tatay Ronda €23.90 for 45 cm and €24.90 for 62 cm. Rosan 60 cm holders cost €39.90 and €42.90, the Brabantia Mineral Fresh €39.99, and the Tesa Smooz with two bars €67.90. A freestanding Artex with three swivel bars costs €19.99, and a Tendance with three bars and a shelf €26.90 instead of €39.90.

The search for sušač peškira returned 14 Moderatom towel warmers, from €39 for a straight 1200x400 mm to €79.90 for a curved 1600x600 mm. Which holder or warmer to choose

A suction holder goes up without drilling on tiles, glass or a mirror, but it only holds lighter towels and only on a smooth surface. A stainless or brass wall holder on wall plugs carries even a wet beach towel, and a freestanding holder can be moved and needs no drilling. More bars mean more towels, but also more space taken in a small bathroom.

A towel warmer on central heating only works while the heating is on, and a plumber connects it to the existing circuit. An electric warmer works in summer too, but in the bathroom it should be placed out of reach of water from the shower and bath, and an electrician should check the circuit's protective switch. A bathroom heater with a towel rail warms the bathroom quickly, while a quiet warmer of a hundred watts only dries the towel. What EU ecodesign requires for electric heaters

In Annex II point 1, Commission Regulation (EU) 2015/1188 on ecodesign for local space heaters requires that from 1 January 2018 the seasonal space heating energy efficiency of electric portable heaters is at least 36 %, of fixed heaters above 250 W at least 38 %, and of fixed heaters up to 250 W at least 34 %.

Under Article 1 the regulation does not apply to heaters specified for purposes other than space heating for human thermal comfort, so whether an electric towel warmer counts as a space heater depends on the manufacturer. A bathroom heater with a towel rail is a space heater, so look on its box for data on output and temperature control.

3. Material: stainless steel, brass, bamboo or plastic.

How we measured and what we did not measure

We copied prices from Okov, KIPS and Ananas on the day we read them, with the pre-discount price where shown; the medians are ours. From the searches we removed hooks, towels, toilet paper holders, toothbrush and trouser holders, radiator brackets, and panel and oil radiators. We did not measure power consumption or how quickly the warmers dry a towel.
