At Okov kettles cost from €12.99 to €119.90, with a median of €34.45, and at KIPS from €13.49 to €34.99. A bread toaster on Ananas has a median of €29.90, and a sandwich toaster or grill €28.90.

A Bosch bread toaster costs from €41 to €129.99, Gorenje from €37.80 to €56.25, Sencor from €18.99 to €31.24, First from €18.70 to €39.10, Tesla from €18.70 to €33.15, and Girmi from €23.90 to €29.90. The 800 W ISKRA sandwich toaster costs €14.64, the 800 W First €20.40, and the grill toasters Girmi BS4400 €64.90, the 2000 W Decakila €69.70, the Bosch TCG3302 €95 and the Tefal GC2050 €95.20.
At Okov the two-slice Sencor STS 2606 costs €21.90, the WMF Stelio €64.90, and the four-slice Sencor STS 5070SS €79.90. Four bread toasters were on sale: the Tefal Croc for €34.90 instead of €44.90, the Russell Hobbs Compact for €49.90 instead of €65.90, the Tefal Smart´n Light for €39.90 instead of €54.90 and the Sencor STS 6058BK for €41.90 instead of €56.90. Electricity and price
Heating one litre of water from 15 to 100 °C takes about 0.1 kWh, which at the higher tariff of 11.5462 c/kWh is about 1.1 cents, without losses. A 2200 W kettle heats that litre in under three minutes without losses. So boil only as much water as you need. An 800 W toaster running for three minutes uses about 0.04 kWh, less than half a cent. By our calculation, a €29.90 kettle and a €29.90 toaster, at the Ananas median, cost €59.80 together, and €73.35 at Okov.

What EFSA says about toast
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) says acrylamide forms in starchy foods during high-temperature cooking, including bread, and that in its 2015 assessment it concluded acrylamide potentially increases the risk of cancer. According to EFSA, toasting bread for five minutes instead of three can raise acrylamide from 31 to up to 118 µg/kg, depending on the bread and toaster temperature, but well-toasted bread raises overall average exposure by only 2.4 percent. So choose a lower browning setting on the toaster.
