Hiking guides in Montenegro: prices of guided hikes in Durmitor and to Bobotov Kuk, national park guides, entrance fees and what the price leaves out (2026)
A national park guide in Montenegro cost €40 for four hours and €80 for eight on 26 September 2026, under the same price list in Durmitor, Biogradska Gora, Prokletije, Lovćen and Skadar Lake. Agencies running hikes from Žabljak charged €130 to €180 per group for the climb to Bobotov Kuk: Žabljak Adventure €130 for a group of up to five and €180 for a group of six to ten people, and Balkan Adventure €170 for a group of three to five. Neither agency lists the Durmitor National Park entrance fee, €5 per person per day, as included.
Below are guide and entrance prices in the five national parks, prices of guided hikes in Durmitor, the cost per person, what the price leaves out, what to ask before booking and how many people were rescued in the mountains in 2025.
What people search for
On 26 September 2026 Google completed bobotov kuk with visina (height), uspon (ascent), staza (trail) and tura (tour), and durmitor tura (Durmitor tour) with pesacka tura durmitor (Durmitor walking tour) and planinarska tura durmitor (Durmitor hiking tour). In English it completed durmitor hiking with tour, guide and season, and bobotov kuk also with hike difficulty. According to Google Keyword Planner, durmitor, bobotov kuk, prokletije and zabljak were searched in Montenegro, in Serbian, between 1,000 and 10,000 times a month from September 2025 to August 2026, and planinarski vodic (mountain guide) and planinarske ture (hiking tours) between 10 and 100 times. In Google Trends, for Montenegro over the last 12 months, durmitor was searched about 15 times more often than bobotov kuk.
Guides and entrance fees in the national parks
The public company Nacionalni parkovi Crne Gore charges the same for a guide in all five parks: €40 for four hours and €80 for eight hours. The price list, which we read on 26 September 2026, gives the guide price by the hour, without the "per person" label that the entrance fee has, and does not state a group size. The Durmitor price list states that all prices except entrance fees include 21% VAT. How we choose and label price sources is explained on our page on how we measure prices.

With a park guide the price per person falls as the group grows: a full-day guide at €80 for four people comes to €20 each, or €25 with the Durmitor entrance fee. The same price list also has an organised drive around the Durmitor Ring, €20 per person by van and €30 by jeep, entrance fee included, for those who want to see the park without a long walk.
Guided hikes in Durmitor
Žabljak Adventure publishes prices for 19 routes in Durmitor, at three difficulty levels, with one price for a group of one to five people and another for a group of six to ten. Balkan Adventure charges €170 for a group of three to five for the climb to Bobotov Kuk from Sedlo, at 1,907 m, for a tour of about seven hours and 11 to 13 km.

Because the price is per group, the cost per person depends on how many of you go. Bobotov Kuk with Žabljak Adventure comes to €65 each for two people and €26 each for five; a sixth person moves the group into the higher €180 bracket, which is €30 each. With Balkan Adventure five people pay €34 each. Žabljak Adventure's website also advertises hiking from €12 per person and Bobotov Kuk from €15 per person, but not the conditions of that price, such as the group size.
What the price leaves out
- Park entrance fee: €5 per person per day in Durmitor. Balkan Adventure lists the guide and the organisation of the tour as included, explicitly excludes food, drinks, insurance and personal equipment, and does not mention the entrance fee.
- Transport to the trailhead: the classic route to Bobotov Kuk starts at Sedlo, and Žabljak Adventure says a taxi from Žabljak to Sedlo costs €15 to €20 one way.
- A night before an early start: the mountain hut at Sedlo from €15 a night, according to Žabljak Adventure, or park accommodation at Škrka for €5 and at Sušica for €10 per person, and an organised campsite in the park at €20 a day.
- Equipment: trekking poles cost €3 a day in the park, and Balkan Adventure recommends them but does not include them in the price.

When a guide makes sense
According to the Report on the state of the protection and rescue system in Montenegro in 2025 by the Ministry of the Interior, the 112 Operations and Communications Centre coordinated 45 rescue operations in the mountains in 2025, in which 94 people were rescued, 81 foreign and 13 Montenegrin citizens, and one foreign citizen died. The ministry has a contract with the Mountain Rescue Service of Montenegro as a specialist unit, and in an emergency you call 112.
A guide pays off most on demanding routes. According to Žabljak Adventure's description, the final part of the climb to Bobotov Kuk, 2,523 m high, follows a rocky ridge, and the most exposed spots are secured with steel cables. The Mountaineering Association of Montenegro, as reported by Fijaka in its guide to hiking, advises using marked trails and official maps and avoiding uncertified guides.
What to ask before booking
- How many people the price covers: agencies charge per group and the park per guide, so ask for the price for your exact number of people.
- What is included: the entrance fee, transport to the trailhead, equipment and insurance.
- What happens if the weather cancels the hike: whether it moves to another day or you get your money back.
- How much walking there is: Balkan Adventure gives seven hours for Bobotov Kuk and Žabljak Adventure four hours and 10 minutes, so ask whether that is walking both ways and with breaks.
- Who leads the hike: ask about the guide's experience and first aid training; Balkan Adventure says its guide is a licensed or experienced local guide.

Glatko and guided hikes
Within tourism and experiences Glatko has a category for hiking and trekking, but on 26 September 2026 it had no verified guide and no request. If you are a hiking guide, signing up as a professional on Glatko is free and commission-free, and prices of other services are in our price guide.
What we did not measure
We did not measure the prices of local guides in Prokletije, Komovi and Orjen, because we found none published, or multi-day hikes such as the Peaks of the Balkans. The park's price list does not say how many people a guide takes, and the agencies do not say whether the entrance fee is included. The prices are from a single day.
