Glasses and Eye Exams in Montenegro: Prices of Ophthalmologist Visits, Frames, Lenses and Laser Correction (2026)

A complete eye examination at the Dr Jovović ophthalmology practice in Podgorica cost €50 on 26 September 2026, and a general eye examination at Svjetlost Budva €80. Frames for prescription glasses in the Optika Jovović online catalogue, out of 654 frames with a price, cost from €28 to €460, with a median of €120, and an organic prescription lens at the same optician, according to its 2023 article, €10 per lens.

Below are the prices of eye exams and prescription tests in Podgorica and Budva, frame prices by brand, lens prices with coatings and high index, laser correction and cataract surgery, sample budgets and when the Health Insurance Fund approves glasses.

What people search for

On 26 September 2026 Google completed oftalmolog podgorica (ophthalmologist Podgorica) with kbc, iskustva (reviews), cijena (price), klinicki centar (clinical centre) and djeciji (children's), and svjetlost budva with cjenovnik (price list), doktori (doctors), iskustva and optika svjetlost budva. With pregled vida cijena (eye exam price) it offered svjetlost pregled vida cijena and optika pregled vida cijena, and with naocare za vid podgorica (glasses Podgorica) okviri za naocare za vid podgorica (glasses frames Podgorica). In English it offered montenegro eye doctor, and in Russian only очки черногория (glasses Montenegro). In Google Trends for Montenegro, optika was searched all year, peaking in the week of 8 March 2026.

Eye exams and prescription tests

Both practices publish a price list online. Dr Jovović is in Podgorica, in Zabjelo, with its optician at the same address, so glasses can be chosen right after the exam. Svjetlost Budva also performs laser correction and cataract surgery. How we choose and label price sources is explained in how we measure prices.

In Podgorica the prescription can also be tested on its own for €40, while the complete exam is €50. When needed, the prescription is measured with a dilated pupil, using drops that widen the pupils, and that service costs €50 in Podgorica.

Frames for glasses

Optika Jovović sells frames for prescription glasses online, with a price for every model. Of 654 frames with a price, a quarter cost up to €80, half up to €120 and three quarters up to €160. There were 81 frames at €60 or less, and 69 frames above €200.

These are prices from one optician, so treat them as a benchmark for comparison, not as a market average.

Prescription lenses

Lenses are not bought ready-made: they are made to the prescription and pupil distance from the exam. The most recent lens prices we found were published by Optika Jovović in an article on lens types on 24 February 2023, so they may differ today:

High-index lenses are thinner and lighter, so they are recommended for stronger prescriptions. The optician also lists their drawbacks: they scratch more easily and reflect more, so an anti-reflective coating is recommended with them.

Laser correction and cataract surgery

Svjetlost Budva also publishes surgery prices. The exam before laser vision correction costs €150, and LASIK or PRK €850 per eye. An ICL phakic lens implant costs €2,000, and a toric ICL €2,200. Ultrasound cataract surgery costs from €1,400 with a monofocal acrylic lens to €2,400 with a multifocal lens, and the pre-surgery exam €150. For both eyes laser correction comes, by our calculation, to €1,700.

When the Fund approves glasses

Under the Health Insurance Fund's Rulebook on the right to medical-technical aids, an insured person is approved glasses with corrective mineral, plastic or lenticular lenses on medical indications, on an ophthalmologist's proposal (Article 57). Based on the proposal the Fund issues an approval certificate valid for 60 days (Article 7), and the glasses are collected from a supplier under contract with the Fund (Article 23). If a different material or features outside the List of aids are chosen, the insured person pays the price difference (Article 24). New lenses are approved before the usage period ends if the prescription changes by 0.50 dioptres (Article 60). Sample budgets

This is our calculation using the prices in the tables, with lenses at 2023 prices:

• Basic glasses in Podgorica: prescription test €40, a Blueclassic frame from €40 and two organic lenses at €10, €100 in total.
• The same, with HMC coating: two lenses at €19 instead of €10, €118 in total.
• Stronger prescription and a branded frame: complete exam €50, a Ray-Ban frame from €120 and 1.67 index lenses for €90, €260 in total.
• Difference: the frame and lenses make up more of the bill than the exam, so it pays to get a lens quote before choosing a frame.

Glatko has no dedicated category for ophthalmologists or opticians. In health and wellness on 26 September 2026 there were 11 subcategories, from physiotherapy and massage to home nursing, and two verified providers from Budva, both for nutrition, with no requests. What to ask the practice and the optician

1. Whether the exam price includes the prescription test and a prescription for glasses.
2. Whether the prescription is measured with a narrow or dilated pupil, as the prices differ.
3. What the lenses cost with the coating you need, before choosing a frame.
4. How long making the glasses takes and whether fitting the lenses into the frame is included.
5. Whether the optician has a contract with the Fund, if you get glasses with a certificate.

What we did not measure

We did not measure exam prices at health centres and the Clinical Centre, or prices at other opticians, because we found no published price list for them. Lens prices are from 2023, and frame prices from one catalogue on the day we read it. We also do not know how much the Fund pays the supplier for glasses, because that amount is not in the rulebook.
