Glasses at Okov

At Okov the first page of the search for case za vodu had 31 offers, of which 11 single glasses and 20 sets. The cheapest is the Hotel Line Classico 270 ml at €0.69, then the Marocco 270 ml and Uniglass Vertis 345 ml at €0.79 each. The Hotel Line Alexander and Uniglass Texas Cube cost €0.99 each, the Onis Chicago €1.69, and the coloured Onis Icon 355 ml €3.99 each.

Sets of six glasses start at €3.79 for the Uniglass Diamond 245 ml, and the Glory and Aras cost €4.99 each. LAV Keops, Gaia, Tokyo and Truva sets cost from €5.49 to €6.19, the Luminarc Theo 380 ml €6.99 instead of €9.99, the Tognana Seoul €8.99 and the Tulip Rhapsody €9.99. The most expensive are the RCR Any 370 ml at €19.90 and the Timeless at €24.90. Sets of three glasses cost from €3.69 for the Uniglass Vertis to €5.99 for the Tognana Diamante in cyclamen, and the Luminarc Vinetis set of four €5.59.

Glasses at KIPS and on Ananas

At KIPS the search for case za vodu returned 126 results, of which 14 water glasses, the rest being wine and rakia glasses, shelves and jugs. Single Uniglass glasses cost from €0.85 to €1.05 for the Marocco XL of 42 cl. Uniglass sets cost €2.89 for the Kyma set of six, €3.99 for the Kyvos, €5.99 for the Glory, and the Classico set of twelve €9.49. Crystal Bohemia sets of six glasses cost €10.99 for the Mergus 410 ml instead of €13.49, €11.99 for the Mergus 220 ml and Pavo 250 ml, and €12.49 for the Mergus 470 ml.

On Ananas the 13 offers came from the seller Rocky Pistolato. A box of six glasses costs from €25.99 for the Cristallin 560 ml and Bohemia Grus 400 ml to €53.99 for the Onion, Tiny and Pinna, and a set of four 58 cl glasses €22.48.

How to choose glasses

For everyday use the most practical are thicker toughened soda-lime glasses, which go in the dishwasher and break less easily. A capacity of 250 to 350 ml suits a glass of water, while those over 450 ml are used for juice with ice or lemonade. Stemmed glasses look more festive but tip over more easily, so low, wide ones suit children and the terrace better.

If you are furnishing an apartment, buy glasses singly or from a range that stays on sale for a long time, so you can replace broken ones later. Thin crystal glass rings and sparkles more beautifully, but it is more delicate and is mostly washed by hand. What the EU sets for the word crystal

In Article 3, Council Directive 69/493/EEC on crystal glass prohibits the descriptions in its Annex I, such as crystal, from being used for products that do not have the prescribed composition and properties. Article 4 adds that if a trade mark or company name contains the word crystal, it must be preceded in prominent lettering by the description of the product or a statement of its exact nature.

So a manufacturer's name containing the word crystal does not by itself mean the glasses are crystal. Montenegro is not an EU member, but on the pack look for the description of the material, for example crystal glass, lead-free crystal or ordinary glass, and whether the glasses may go in the dishwasher.

How we measured and what we did not measure

We copied prices from Okov, KIPS and Ananas on the day we read them, with the pre-discount price where shown; the medians are ours. At Okov we removed a jug set with glasses, and at KIPS we counted only water glasses, without wine and rakia glasses, shelves and jugs. We compared sets of different sizes by set price, not per glass. We did not measure glass thickness or resistance to washing.
