Car rental in Montenegro: daily prices for mini, compact and SUV cars, deposit, airport pickup and crossing the border (2026)

On 25 September 2026 a rental car in Montenegro cost from €22 a day for the smallest car to €120 for a large SUV, according to the price lists for 55 vehicles on the website of the agency RentaCars.me. A small car such as a Renault Clio or Hyundai i20 cost €45 to €50 a day for one to two days, and €34 to €38 a day for a 7-day rental. A longer rental is always cheaper per day: a Kia Picanto drops from €22 to €16 and a Seat Leon from €30 to €20 when you take the car for 32 to 62 days.

Below are the prices by vehicle class, how far the rate falls with the length of the rental, what agencies say about the deposit, card and driver age, how airport pickup and crossing the border work, what parking costs and when a taxi is cheaper.

What people search for

On 25 September 2026 Google completed rent a car podgorica with aerodrom (airport), bez depozita (without a deposit), stari aerodrom (the Old Airport district) and cijena (price), rent a car budva with bez depozita, cena (price) and kombi (van), and rent a car tivat with aerodrom and bez depozita. According to Google Keyword Planner, rent a car, rent a car podgorica and rent a car budva were each searched in Montenegro, in Serbian, between 1,000 and 10,000 times a month from September 2025 to August 2026, more than almost any service we write about.

Prices by vehicle class

We read the prices on 25 September 2026 on the website of the agency RentaCars.me, which publishes price lists for 55 vehicles, 40 with automatic and 15 with manual transmission, with a daily rate for four to six rental lengths. We explain how we choose and label price sources on our page on how we measure prices.

The same model can cost differently in two price lists on the site: a VW Tiguan 4Motion from the price list valid until 30 November costs €40 a day, and in the price list valid until 31 December €60. In this sample an automatic gearbox barely raises the price: a Golf VII Variant with a manual gearbox costs €33 and with an automatic €35 a day.

Longer rental, lower daily rate

Every price list lowers the daily rate as the number of days grows:

• Kia Picanto: €22 a day for one to two days, €18 for 7 to 13 days and €16 for 32 to 62 days.
• Seat Leon: €30, €23 and €20 for the same rental lengths.
• Golf VII Variant with a manual gearbox: €33, €28 and €21.
• Volvo XC90: €120 for one to two days, €90 for 7 to 14 and €75 for 15 to 31 days.

A Seat Leon for three days therefore costs €75, and for ten days €230, or €23 instead of €25 a day. At the agency Rent a Car Montenegro, prices for a rental of 15 to 29 days on the first page of its fleet start at €25 for a Seat Toledo and go up to €45 for a Ford Puma with an automatic gearbox, while a Renault Clio, Hyundai i20, Peugeot 208 and Škoda Fabia cost €32 a day each.

Deposit, card and driver age

RentaCars.me says that most vehicles need no deposit and that delivery to the airport at its main locations, an additional driver and a child seat are free. Rent a Car Montenegro offers low-deposit and no-deposit options, but its answers to frequent questions say that most agencies ask for a credit card for the deposit, that the minimum driver age is generally 21 and that basic insurance is usually included in the price. Before you sign the contract, check the amount of the deposit, how much you pay towards damage and whether mileage is unlimited.

Airport, another city and crossing the border

Both agencies deliver the car to Podgorica and Tivat airports. Returning it in another city is possible, but Rent a Car Montenegro says an extra charge may apply depending on the route. Driving to Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania or Kosovo is possible with the agency's prior approval, and the agency prepares the documents, but neither of the two agencies publishes the price of that permission.

For comparison, a taxi from Podgorica airport to Budva costs a fixed €70, and from Tivat airport to Budva €30 to €45, as we wrote in our guide to airport taxis. The cheapest car in the sample, a Kia Picanto, costs €44 for two days, less than one taxi ride from Podgorica airport to Budva, but with a car you also pay for fuel and parking.

Parking, fines and winter tyres

In Budva an hour of parking costs €1 to €2 in summer, depending on the zone, in Kotor €4.80 at the Riva car park, and in Podgorica €0.40 to €0.60, and Fijaka in its guide to parking lists the zones, SMS numbers and fines for unpaid parking. The traffic rules, from speed limits to the rules for young drivers, are set by the Law on Road Traffic Safety, whose amendments were published on 30 July 2026 in the Official Gazette 111/2026. Glatko and vehicle rental

Glatko has a vehicle rental category within transport and moving, but on 25 September 2026 it had no registered agency and no requests. If you rent out vehicles, registering as a professional on Glatko is free and commission-free, and prices for other services are in our price guide.

What we did not measure

We did not measure prices at the airport rental desks or at international chains that quote a price only for exact dates. Neither of the two agencies publishes the amount of the deposit or the price of permission to leave the country. The price lists on RentaCars.me are valid until 30 September, 30 November or 31 December, so prices will change with the season, and these are prices from a single day.
