Car service in Montenegro: what an AC recharge, oil change, brake pads and diagnostics cost (2026)

A car AC recharge and service in Podgorica costs €15 to €30, according to four AutoDiler ads posted or refreshed in August and September 2026, and one garage charges for R1234yf refrigerant by the gram. Lazi auto servis in Budva lists an oil and filter change from €5, a chassis inspection from €20, brake pad replacement from €25 and a fluid change from €30. The only 2026 ad with a price for computer diagnostics, from Sutomore, asks €30, and a litre of engine oil at Okov cost €4.49 to €7.99 on 25 September 2026.

What people search for

On 25 September 2026 Google completed mali servis (minor service) with podgorica and cijena podgorica (price Podgorica), and servis auta podgorica (car service Podgorica) with minor and major service. Punjenje auto klime (car AC recharge) came with Podgorica, Nikšić, Budva, Tivat, Herceg Novi, Bar, Ulcinj and Kotor, dijagnostika auta (car diagnostics) with Podgorica and Nikšić, and people also search for servis auto klime podgorica (car AC service Podgorica). In English the searches are car service montenegro, auto service montenegro and bosch car service montenegro, and in Russian автосервис черногория (car service Montenegro) and автосервис бар черногория (car service Bar).

Car AC recharge: prices from ads

On 25 September 2026 AutoDiler had 11 ads in its car AC recharge and service category, six of them posted or refreshed in 2025 and 2026: five from 2026 and one from February 2025. Four ads from Podgorica, from August and September 2026, show a recharge price, one ad from Tološi gives the price on request, and the 2025 ad offers disinfection only. All four priced ads list vacuuming the system, compressor oil, UV dye, which is later used to trace leaks, and a refrigerant refill. The cheapest, €15, refreshed on 6 September, also includes a filter replacement and a free check, and the €30 ad from 23 September adds a nitrogen test with a leak detector. The €25 ad from Zagorič names R134a refrigerant explicitly, and the €30 ad from August charges €30 for R134a but R1234yf by the gram. Since 2017 new vehicles in the EU may not have AC systems filled with R134a, so most newer cars use R1234yf, and for such a car you should ask for the price in advance.

Mechanical work: one garage's price list

Lazi auto servis in Budva publishes starting prices for mechanical work and notes that its list of services is longer than the published one:

The garage does not say whether prices include parts, but €5 for an oil and filter change does not cover even two litres of the cheapest oil at Okov, so it refers to labour. Prices are rare in mechanics' ads: two Podgorica ads from July and August 2026 offer a gearbox overhaul for €100, one of them explicitly for manual gearboxes, while ads for truck diagnostics in Tivat and for diagnostics and chip tuning in Podgorica give prices on request. The only 2026 ad with a price for computer diagnostics, from Sutomore, was posted on 25 September and asks €30. In Kotor one ad in Russian offers automatic gearbox repair, also on request.

Oil and fluids at Okov

Okov sells engine oil in one-litre packs, and the same category has brake fluid, AdBlue and an engine flush:

Okov does not sell oil or cabin filters, and its only air filters are universal sports ones at €9.99, so ask a garage or a car parts shop for the filters that fit your model. Your vehicle's service book says which oil your engine needs; 15W-40 and 10W-40 are thicker oils, while many newer engines call for 5W-30.

Example: an oil change for an engine that takes 4.5 litres

This is our calculation for an engine that needs 4.5 litres of 5W-30, using Okov and Lazi prices:

• Oil: five litres of Dinol 5W-30 at €7.99, €39.95 in total, because it is sold by the litre.
• Labour: oil and filter change from €5 at Lazi.
• Total without filters: from €44.95; oil, air and cabin filters come on top.
• AC before summer: another €15 to €30 according to Podgorica ads.

Before the roadworthiness test and registration

It makes sense to book a service before the roadworthiness test, because the test also checks brakes and lights. Fijaka explains in its vehicle registration guide that the test is done no earlier than 30 days before the registration expires and that, from August 2026, a new passenger car has its first test only two years after first registration.

At registration you also pay the annual road-use charge, which from 1 July 2027 is calculated with a new formula, so the €5 base gives €16 for a passenger car with a 1,351 to 1,800 cc engine, as RoNa Legal explains in its analysis of the new Government decision.

Who does this on Glatko

On 25 September 2026 Glatko had no verified providers and no requests in the car service category, including AC recharge and scheduled service, so the ads and the garage above are the only price sources for now. A registered garage's invoice goes through the Tax Administration's electronic fiscalisation system.

What to ask before the service

1. Whether the price includes oil and filters or labour only.
2. Which refrigerant your car uses, R134a or R1234yf, and how many grams go in.
3. Whether the AC is vacuumed and leak-tested before the refill.
4. Whether you get the old parts back and a fiscal receipt.
5. How long the warranty on labour and fitted parts lasts.

What we did not measure

Ad prices are the prices providers published themselves, and we did not check the quality of the work. The garage's price list shows starting prices only and does not mention parts. We found no published prices for filters, for an R1234yf refill or for a major service with a timing belt change. We did not use ads older than 2025.
