Vets in Montenegro: the cost of a check-up, vaccinations, microchipping, spaying and diagnostics at Podgorica clinics (2026)

A vet check-up in Podgorica costs from €17 to €22, a rabies vaccine from €12 to €20, and spaying a dog from €80 to €180, depending on its weight and on whether the dog was adopted. On 25 September 2026 the two Podgorica clinics that publish a price list, RoyalVet and Animavet, also charged €15 and €22 for a core combination vaccine, €12 to €20 for a microchip, €25 for an ultrasound and €30 for an X-ray.

Below are the prices of check-ups and certificates, vaccinations, the microchip and passport, spaying and neutering, diagnostics and minor procedures, what drives the price, surcharges for night and holiday work, three example bills and what the law requires of a dog owner.

What people search for

On 25 September 2026 Google completed veterinar podgorica (vet Podgorica) with cjenovnik (price list), 24 7, zabjelo and dezurni (on duty), and veterinarska ambulanta (vet clinic) with the town names niksic, bar, budva, herceg novi and danilovgrad. People also search for sterilizacija psa cijena (dog spaying price), with the additions ženke (female) and malog psa (small dog), cipovanje psa cijena (dog microchip price) and pasos za psa crna gora (dog passport Montenegro). In Google Trends, for Montenegro over the last 12 months, veterinar (vet) drew far less interest than terms such as teretana (gym) or auto skola (driving school).

Check-ups and certificates

We read the prices on 25 September 2026 on the websites of two Podgorica clinics; Animavet notes that this is only part of its prices and that they may change. Vaccinations, microchip and passport

Vaccinating dogs against rabies is, as the Government states on its rabies page, a legal obligation of every owner, and all dogs and cats older than three months are subject to vaccination. Microchipping dogs has been mandatory since 1 July 2019, when the rulebook on identifying dogs and cats began to apply. Rabies was last recorded in Montenegro in 2012.

Spaying and neutering

For adopted female dogs up to 20 kg RoyalVet charges €40 less for spaying than for other dogs of that weight, and it has separately lower prices for cats without an owner. General anaesthesia at that clinic costs €20 for a dog up to 20 kg, €30 up to 40 kg and €50 over 40 kg.

Diagnostics and minor procedures

What drives the price

• The pet's weight: spaying a dog at RoyalVet rises from €120 up to 20 kg to €180 over 40 kg, and general anaesthesia at Animavet costs €25 for a dog up to 10 kg or a cat and €30 for a larger dog.
• The pet's status: for adopted female dogs and for cats without an owner RoyalVet has lower prices, from €35 for neutering a male cat to €80 for spaying a female dog up to 20 kg.
• Coming back: a follow-up check-up within 20 days at Animavet costs €12 instead of €22.
• What you bring: a blood count with the blood draw at Animavet costs €15, and €10 if you bring blood already drawn; each biochemistry parameter costs €2 to €3.

That is why it always pays to ask for the price before a procedure, with your pet's exact weight.

At night, on Sundays and on holidays

RoyalVet states that services outside working hours, on Sundays and on holidays cost 50% more, and at night 100% more than its listed prices; it also charges €50 separately for night and overtime work. Animavet charges €30 to €50 for resuscitating a pet and €20 for a house call. It is worth saving the number of an on-duty clinic in advance; next to veterinar podgorica Google also offers the completion 24 7.

• Annual vaccination of an adult dog, RoyalVet: check-up €17, rabies vaccine €12 and combination vaccine €15, €44 in total.
• The same at Animavet: check-up €22, rabies vaccine €15 to €20 and combination vaccine €22, €59 to €64 in total.
• Spaying a 25 kg female dog, RoyalVet: procedure €150 and check-up €17, €167 in total; if the dog was adopted, the procedure is €120 and the total €137.

Travelling with a pet

On 2 April 2026 the Administration for Food Safety, Veterinary and Phytosanitary Affairs announced that the European Commission had confirmed that Montenegro meets the conditions for the list of third countries, so that once the procedure is complete, the rabies antibody titre test will be dropped for travelling with a pet to the European Union. We did not include the price lists of vets in Nikšić, Bar, Budva and Herceg Novi that Google suggests. We did not include the prices of medicines, food or complex surgery, and vet prices change with the pet's weight and the type of procedure. We also did not check how long you wait for an appointment. The prices are from a single day.
