At Okov we took 17 Weltplast items from six searches, with a median of €2.49. A 1/2 (DN 20) pipe in a 4 m length costs €5.25, a 3/4 (DN 25) €7.50 and a 5/4 (DN 40) €19.90. A 1/2 elbow and coupler cost €0.25 each, a tee €0.40 and a test plug €0.39.
A 32 mm PP-RCT elbow costs €0.99, a 20x1/2 elbow adaptor with male thread €2.49, a 25x1/2 adaptor with female thread €2.40, and a modular connection set €7.45. Valves with a cap cost €8.99 for 1/2 and 3/4, with a metal cap €11.99, and a PP-RCT valve with a nickel-plated cap €13.99. An 800 W welding machine for 20 to 32 mm pipes costs €39.90, and a 1500 W one for 20 to 63 mm pipes €49.90.
PPR at KIPS
At KIPS we took 121 Weltplast W.Therm and Europlast items from eight searches, with a median of €2.57. A PP-RCT pipe in a 4 m length costs €5.30 for 1/2, €8.12 for 3/4, €13.36 for 1, €21.79 for 5/4, €33.68 for 6/4, €54.45 for 2 and €74.84 for 2 1/2. A 1/2 elbow costs €0.30, a 3/4 one €0.52, a 1 one €1.08 and a 2 1/2 one €13.27, and a coupler €0.30 for 1/2 and €0.50 for 3/4.
A tee costs €0.48 for 1/2 and €0.75 for 3/4, a 3/4 to 1/2 reducer €0.49, and a crossover bend from €1.08 to €2.79. Threaded adaptor couplers cost from €1.76 for 20x1/2 to €50.12 for 75x2 1/2, and Europlast unions from €3.30 to €9.94. What a metre of pipe and a bathroom cost
A metre of 1/2 PPR pipe costs about €1.31 at Okov and €1.33 at KIPS, 3/4 about €1.88 at Okov and €2.03 at KIPS, and 1 about €3.34. For bathroom pipework with twelve metres of 1/2 pipe you need three lengths, around ten elbows and a few tees and adaptor couplers, which with valves comes to a few dozen euros of material. Most of the cost of the pipework is the plumber's labour, chasing and closing the wall.
What to choose
1/2 (20 mm) and 3/4 (25 mm) water pipes are used for the pipework in a flat, while 1 (32 mm) and larger are for the main supply and bigger buildings. PP-RCT is a newer material than classic PPR and copes better with hot water and pressure, so it is chosen for hot water and heating. For hot water the pipes are laid with room to expand, because PPR lengthens more than metal pipes when heated.
Pipes and fittings are joined with a welding machine that melts the ends of the pipe and fitting so they fuse into one piece. Welding is not hard to learn, but a badly welded joint in the wall leaks later, so leave the pipework behind the tiles to a plumber and ask for a pressure test before the wall is closed. For threaded fittings use PTFE tape or hemp, not silicone.

What EU rules require of materials for drinking water
Directive (EU) 2020/2184 on water intended for human consumption requires in Article 11, paragraph 1, that materials in new installations and repairs that come into contact with drinking water do not endanger human health, do not change the colour, odour or taste of the water, do not enhance microbial growth and do not leach contaminants into the water at levels higher than necessary.
Paragraph 2 of the same article requires the Commission to adopt European positive lists of starting substances for organic, cementitious, metallic and other materials, so plastic pipes are also assessed under the same rules. Montenegro is not an EU member, but pipes for drinking water should be chosen from manufacturers who state that they are intended for drinking water, not for drainage or technical water.

We copied prices from Okov and KIPS on the day of the check; we calculated the medians and the price per metre ourselves. We did not count PE, PVC and galvanised fittings or drain pipes. Diameter and type were taken from product names. We did not check the pressure class, pipe wall thickness or whether the materials are on the European positive lists.
