Fire Extinguishers in Montenegro: Prices of 1, 2, 3 and 6 kg and CO2 Extinguishers at Okov and KIPS, Fire Blanket, Smoke Detector and Inspection Rules (2026)

On 26 September 2026 a 1 kg fire extinguisher in Montenegro costs from €16.90 at Okov, a 2 kg one from €28.51 at KIPS, a 3 kg one from €34.99, and a 6 kg one €54.90 at Okov. A 5 kg CO2 extinguisher costs €109.90. The same 1 kg extinguisher is €9.45 cheaper at Okov than at KIPS, while the 2 and 3 kg ones are cheaper at KIPS. By our calculation, a basic kit for a flat, a 1 kg extinguisher, a fire blanket and a smoke detector, costs €37.29.

What people search for

On 26 September 2026 Google completed pp aparat (fire extinguisher) with za auto (for the car), okov, za zgrade (for buildings), s2 and za grcku (for Greece), and pp aparat cijena (extinguisher price) with s9, s6, za auto and 2 kg. For protivpozarni aparati (fire extinguishers) it offered crna gora and podgorica, and for pp aparat rok trajanja (extinguisher expiry) s2 and za auto. People also search pp aparat za kucu (for the house), protivpožarno ćebe (fire blanket) and detektor dima cijena (smoke detector price). Google Trends shows fire extinguishers searched rarely in Montenegro, but with a clear intent to buy by size.

Prices by size

Okov and KIPS sell powder extinguishers from 1 to 6 kg and CO2 extinguishers. How we choose and label price sources is explained in how we measure prices.

The gap is largest for the smallest extinguisher: the 1 kg one is €9.45 cheaper at Okov, while the 2 and 3 kg ones are €1.39 and €1.91 cheaper at KIPS.

• Flat: 1 kg extinguisher €16.90 + fire blanket €13.90 + smoke detector €6.49 = €37.29 at Okov.
• Shop, garage or holiday let: 6 kg extinguisher €54.90 at Okov + wall bracket €16.50 on Ananas = €71.40.

What the markings mean

The letters on an extinguisher show the type of fire it is meant for: A for solids such as wood and paper, B for flammable liquids and C for gases. An ABC extinguisher covers all three, a BC one only liquids and gases. A CO2 extinguisher leaves no powder, so it is used where equipment must not be damaged, for example around electrical appliances. The number after the letter S gives the kilograms of powder, so an S6 is a 6 kg extinguisher.

What the law requires

Under Article 99 of the Law on Protection and Rescue, users of firefighting equipment must ensure it is inspected regularly according to the manufacturer's instructions and the prescribed standards. Fire extinguishers may be inspected only by registered firms authorised by the manufacturer that have the equipment and qualified staff, and the user keeps a record of the extinguisher's number, the name of the inspector and the date. Under Article 106 campsites must have working fire extinguishers, and under Article 118 a legal entity faces a fine of €500 to €20,000 for that offence.

Google also suggests za auto and za grcku with fire extinguishers, which shows that drivers look for one before a trip; we did not check other countries' rules. What to check before buying

1. The ABC or BC marking for the space where the extinguisher will stand.
2. The size: 1 or 2 kg for a car and a flat, 6 kg for a shop and a garage.
3. The production date and the instructions on inspection.
4. A bracket, so the extinguisher is visible and within reach.
5. The inspection firm, authorised by the manufacturer.

How we measured and what we did not measure

We copied prices from three shops on the day we read them, and compared the same sizes ourselves. The two kits are our own calculation. We did not measure the price of inspecting and refilling an extinguisher, because firms in Montenegro do not publish it, and the service life of individual models depends on the manufacturer's instructions.
