Court Interpreters in Montenegro: Certified Translation Price per Page, Interpreting per Hour and How Many Interpreters Each Language Has (2026)
A certified translation by a court interpreter in Montenegro costs, under the 2016 Law on Interpreters, €20 per page for a translation from Montenegrin into a foreign language, €15 for a translation from a foreign language into Montenegrin and €25 for a translation from one foreign language into another, and a page has 1,800 characters including spaces. Oral interpreting costs €35 for every started hour, and simultaneous interpreting €50. On the Ministry of Justice list of 27 July 2026, 247 interpreters are registered for English, 45 for Russian and 27 for German.

On 26 September 2026 Google completed sudski tumač (court interpreter) with sudski tumači crna gora (court interpreters Montenegro), and sudski tumac podgorica with separate suggestions for English, German, Italian, Russian, Albanian, Slovenian, Turkish and Croatian. For sudski tumac cijena (court interpreter price) it offered sudski tumač cijena prijevoda (translation price) and sudski tumač za engleski cijena (English interpreter price). In Russian people search for судебный переводчик черногория, and in Turkish for karadağ yeminli tercüman.
Price per page and per hour
The tariff is written into the law itself, so it is the same with every interpreter. How we choose and label price sources is explained in how we measure prices.

The interpreter is also entitled to travel and other expenses and to compensation for lost earnings, under the rules on costs in court proceedings. If a translation you brought has to be corrected, the interpreter charges in proportion to the changes, but not more than the full translation price.
What a translation page is
A translation page is 1,800 characters including spaces, not one sheet of paper. Under the Rulebook on Permanent Court Interpreters of 2008 a page had 2,300 characters; the Association of Interpreters of Montenegro told Monitor that the new law cut the page to 1,800 characters and kept the prices. The same amount per page therefore now buys about 22% less text. A court interpreter for English from Podgorica also states on her price page that the price per page is set by law and that a page has 1,800 characters.
You can see the character count including spaces in any word processor. A certificate or register extract usually fits on one page, and a contract of several sheets on several.
How many interpreters each language has
The Ministry of Justice publishes a list of interpreters, last updated on 27 July 2026. We counted the entries in each language section; one interpreter can be registered for more than one language.

In total we counted 438 entries in 28 language sections, 250 of them with an address in Podgorica. For languages such as Arabic and Ukrainian the choice is small, so look for an interpreter early.
Three sample bills
This is our own calculation using the statutory tariff:
- A diploma and a civil register extract in English, translated into Montenegrin, two pages: 2 × €15 = €30.
- A five-page contract from Montenegrin into English: 5 × €20 = €100.
- Oral interpreting at a notary for 70 minutes: two started hours, 2 × €35 = €70.
If you bring your own English translation of a five-page contract, review and certification cost half, 5 × €10 = €50, provided the interpreter does not have to change anything.
Translation, apostille and residence documents
A certified translation is only one step: a foreign document often needs an apostille or legalisation first, and only then a translation. Who can be an interpreter
According to the conditions on the Point of Single Contact portal, interpreters are appointed by the Ministry of Justice, and a candidate must have higher education, at least five years of work experience, full command of the language and a passed interpreter exam, which costs €197.40. An interpreter has a seal and a stamp showing the language for which they are appointed, and the translation also states the fee charged.
On Glatko
Glatko has no translation category: court interpreters are appointed by the Ministry of Justice and are on its list. On the platform you can find providers for moving and transport, and on 26 September 2026 that category had three verified providers.
What to ask before ordering
- How many pages your text has at 1,800 characters with spaces.
- Whether an apostille is needed before the translation.
- Whether the translation is into or out of Montenegrin, because the price differs.
- When the translation will be ready and whether urgency is charged extra.
- How many copies of the certified translation you need.
How we measured and what we did not measure
We took the amounts from the draft Law on Interpreters with its tariff and checked them against the Association of Interpreters' statement that prices stayed the same and against one interpreter's website; we counted the Ministry of Justice list ourselves. We did not measure the prices of translation agencies or of uncertified translations, which the law does not regulate, nor charges for urgent translations.
