Air Conditioner Installation Cost in Montenegro: Unit, Fitting and Running Costs
"Air conditioner installation cost Montenegro" returns nothing in Google's suggestions; neither does "AC unit price Montenegro" (checked 23 September 2026). The local-language searches are active — "klima cijena crna gora", "klima cijena sa ugradnjom", brand names with "cijena", and "cijena struje po kWh crna gora". People here budget for three things at once: the unit, the fitting and the electricity. This guide does the same.
A word on sources before the numbers. Only one Montenegrin company we found publishes a full price list for units, installation and service, and we use it throughout — labelled, not averaged. Our own platform has no AC quotes yet (the two AC requests we received in June expired without one), so we do not publish a platform price.
Unit prices by class and size
These are the published "from" prices of a Podgorica AC company for 2026, read on 23.09.2026. Final prices depend on the model, energy class and stock.

Two things jump out. Going from economy to premium roughly doubles the price at every size. And every step above 12,000 BTU adds 200–350 €, while going from 9,000 to 12,000 BTU adds only 40–130 € — so sizing correctly is where you save.
The same company's sizing guidance: 2.6 kW (9,000 BTU) for 15–20 m², 3.5 kW for 25–35 m², 5 kW above 40 m², more for south-facing or top-floor rooms.

For context, a Croatian price portal quotes 180–380 € for installing an AC unit in 2026. Montenegrin labour is cheaper; what varies is what is included. Compare quotes against the five items in the caption above, and ask for the price per metre beyond 5 m of piping — the list does not publish one.
Three worked scenarios
We combined the published prices into three typical cases. These are starting prices from one company, before extra piping, call-out outside Podgorica or brackets — a budget floor, not a quote.

The arithmetic is simple and worth checking on any quote: for the two-bedroom flat in the economy class, that is 330 + 290 + 290 € for the units plus 3 × 120 € for installation.
What it costs to run
Electricity is where Montenegro is unusually cheap. According to Eurostat's household electricity price data, a Montenegrin household in the 2,500–4,999 kWh annual consumption band paid 0.0998 € per kWh in the second half of 2025, all taxes included. The same band cost 0.1658 € in Croatia and 0.2896 € on average across the EU.
That makes the running cost easy to estimate yourself. Sellers in Montenegro must display the energy label on air-conditioning units, and the label states an annual electricity consumption in kWh. Multiply it by roughly 0.10 €:
- a label showing 150 kWh a year means about 15 € a year
- 300 kWh means about 30 €
- 600 kWh means about 60 €
Two caveats. The label's figure assumes a standard number of cooling hours; a coastal rental running all summer will use more. And the price above is an average across a consumption band, not your exact tariff. The order of magnitude, though, holds: at Montenegrin prices, a better energy class pays back slowly, so the case for premium units rests on noise, reliability and service network as much as on the electricity bill.
Annual servicing budget
At the published 35 € per indoor unit, servicing the two-bedroom scenario costs 105 € a year, or 180 € if you also wash the three outdoor units. The installer recommends a yearly service in spring, and every 3–6 months for units running 12 hours or more a day. For a holiday rental, budget the second visit.
Where the money is lost
- Oversizing. A 24,000 BTU unit where 12,000 would do costs 470–660 €
more in the list above, installation included.
- Piping not in the quote. The standard price covers 5 m. Ask for the
per-metre price in writing.
- Waiting for July. In June 2026 the two AC requests on our platform
expired without a quote; installers are busiest exactly when you need them. Book between March and May.
- Topping up instead of fixing. A unit that needs refrigerant every year
has a leak. At 40–60 € a visit, finding it is cheaper.

We have one Montenegrin price list, not a market survey; the Croatian and EU figures are context, not Montenegrin rates. We have no platform quotes for AC work. Brackets, electrical work and anything beyond the standard 5 m of piping are not priced here because we found no published source.
