Moving House Within Montenegro: Finding Movers and a Van, and What Drives the Price

Type "грузчики подгорица" or "грузчики будва" (movers in Podgorica or Budva, in Russian) into Google and you get no suggestions; the same goes for "переезд подгорица" (moving Podgorica). We checked on 24 September 2026. English is no better: "man with van budva" is empty, and "movers podgorica" brings up the name of a single company. The only Russian searches that come back are "будва переезд" and "грузоперевозки черногория" (freight Montenegro), and for the second Google adds сербия and россия черногория, so those are moves between countries.

In the local language the picture is entirely different. selidbe podgorica brings cijena (price), kombi selidbe (moving by van), prevoz selidbe (removal transport), usluge selidbe (moving services) and agencija za selidbe (moving agency). selidbe budva brings prevoz and kombi. prevoz namještaja (furniture transport) brings Podgorica, Budva and the whole of Montenegro. The conclusion is simple: movers here are searched for and found in the local language, so start with the words.

A search vocabulary

Add the town to these words: selidbe podgorica, selidbe bar, selidbe herceg novi, selidbe kotor. Google recognises all of these searches.

Why nobody names a price

On 24 September 2026 we opened the websites of two Podgorica moving firms and two ads for transport and moving, one from Podgorica and one from Budva. Not one of the four gives a figure. The ads say cijena na upit, "price on request". The firms' websites explain why, and list almost the same factors:

• how many movers are needed;
• whether there is a lift and which floor the flat is on;
• the size of the flat or office;
• how many items there are and what they are;
• the distance;
• extra services: packing, taking furniture apart and putting it back together.

One firm writes that the estimate is free and that taking furniture apart and reassembling it is included in the price. The other says it also works at weekends and on public holidays, but that prices on those days may differ from normal ones.

Since the price is not published, you have to ask for it. The more precise the request, the faster and more accurate the answer.

Distances within the country

Montenegro is small, and the figures show it. On 24 September 2026 we ran common moving routes through the OpenStreetMap routing engine. These are car times without stops; a van full of furniture is slower:

The router sent both routes to Herceg Novi over the Kamenari — Lepetane ferry: it is shorter, but you will have to wait for the ferry. Even the longest of these moves fits into one working day, so within the country the price is shaped more by floors, lifts and the amount of stuff than by kilometres.

What to send for a quote

In one message, ideally on Viber or WhatsApp:

1. The "from" and "to" addresses, with the floor and whether each building has a lift.
2. A photo of each room, and separate photos of large items: wardrobes, the sofa, the fridge, the washing machine.
3. What needs taking apart and putting back together.
4. Whether a van can pull up at the entrance and where it can stop.
5. Your preferred date and how flexible it is.
6. Whether you need packing or will pack yourself.

Ask how many movers there will be, whether taking furniture apart is included and what the weekend price is. Ask for the final amount in writing, even if only in a messenger.

On moving day

• Photograph the meter readings in both the old and the new flat.
• Agree the lift and a spot for the van with the building manager or neighbours in advance.
• The day before, switch off and empty the fridge, and drain the washing machine.
• Carry documents, money and valuables yourself.
• Check the reassembled furniture before you let the movers go.

What we see on the platform

On 24 September 2026, two verified profiles on Glatko take local moves and house moves:

• in Podgorica, working in Serbian, Montenegrin and English, with a 50 km radius and a declared base price from €20;
• in Herceg Novi, working in Montenegrin and Serbian, with a 200 km radius, which on paper covers almost the whole country.

Another Podgorica profile offers movers and packing as well as storage, works in English and Serbian, and declares a base price from €30. There are no moving profiles yet in Budva, Kotor, Tivat or Bar. Not a single moving request has come in on the platform so far, so we cannot say anything about the prices of real jobs.

If the new flat is not ready yet

Sometimes the old flat has to be vacated before the new one is ready: the renovation has overrun, or the landlord has not moved out yet. Then your things can go into storage for a while. Ask in advance what a month of storage costs, whether you can collect some things early, and who is responsible for them in the storage unit. A "flat — storage — flat" move is two moves, and you pay the movers twice, so it is sometimes cheaper to live with boxes for a week.

After the move

A move does not end when the van leaves. A foreigner with a residence permit has to take care of the new address: what to report and by when is published by the Ministry of the Interior on its page. Transfer the electricity and water bills into your name, or agree the meter readings with the landlord on the day you move in.
